According to MMAjunkie.com, a heavyweight clash between Gabriel Gonzaga and Justin McCully has been added to the card for UFC 86 on July 5 in Las Vegas.
McCully, a member of Tito Ortiz’s Team Punishment, has not fought since his successful debut at UFC Fight 9 in April of 2007. During that fight, McCully, who was added to the card as an injury replacement, recorded an upset unanimous decision over Antoni Hardonk.
McCully is currently undefeated in his last four fights but has not fought in over a year due to various injuries. He’s been rumored for several matchups over the past several months but nothing had been finalized.
Gonzaga is currently mired in a two-fight losing streak, having suffered back-to-back TKOs against Randy Couture at UFC 74 and Fabricio Werdum at UFC 80. He rose to national prominence following his upset TKO over Mirko Cro Cop at UFC 70 in April of 2007 after he knocked Cro Cop out with a head kick in the first round.
UFC 86 will take place at the MGM Grand and will feature a light heavyweight title defense by Quinton “Rampage” Jackson against Forrest Griffin.
