bs by thiago. doesnt deserve a win where hes 4 lbs over at weigh in, meaning hes clearly at least 10 lbs heavier than hughes. regardless he’d get mangled by GSP. dan miragliotta seriously needs to eat shit and stop reffin.

  • JoHn says:

i would have much rather hughes not fight than to fight a middleweight, which is basically what alves was,, punk ass Alves, i know i am going to get ridiculed for this comment

  • Zack says:

no, John, I think we all agree with you. Unprofessional nonsense from Alves. unacceptable

  • Paul Balsom says:

    Couple things:

Adam, it’s funny you said “don’t scroll down” because the whole article is on the screen…

Secondly, I read some reports of people saying the Alves was weighing in at 180 nearly four weeks ago! That’s ridiculous and unacceptable. Even with a “bum ankle,” ride a bike dude…

Agree or Disagree: Thumb up 0 Thumb down 0

  • Paul Balsom says:

Then he says, “I’ve been a good boy…” What’s that all about? He got suspended for poo drugs, then comes in overweight. A real promoters dream…

yep, pedal with one foot…get in the sauna, whatever it takes…

They should shelf him then feed him to loser of GSP vs Fitch

Hey, I’m just giving people fair warning. They want a spoiler alert then I’ll give it to them.

dan miragliotta is such a knucklehead. you’d think after all the bad press he got he would have been a bit more liberal in his stoppages. i think he’s big john’s “special” cousin, “Have you seen my baseball?”

Agree or Disagree: Thumb up 0 Thumb down 0

  • Evan says:

“SPOILER ALERT: If you do not want to see the results from the fights and are waiting for the PPV this evening, DO NOT scroll down any further!”

LOL…Its impossible not to see it…how about hiding it behind a link like other sites?

I saw it live so I don’t care but common sense man…

I want to know if anyone’s gonna point out that spiking an opponents head into the mat is illegal. Talk about a way to seriously hurt someone. This stuff isn’t fake and a piledriver has been illegal since they started to have real rules. In sports you must protect the spine and allowing that can quickly end someones career.

I watched live also, but that spoiler warning is funny!

Here’s my spoiler warning: Don’t visit mma sites befor eyou watch the card!!!

Wow, UFC must be really protecting Werdum, because using much of the logic from this weeks internet posts, that was a far worse stoppage than anything in EXC’s card. Seriously, that stoppage was ridiculous and all the bad reffing the last few shows, is really disappointing. I’m all for protecting the fighters, as Hexrei can testify, but this was ridiculous.

I need to see Maquardt/Leites 2 and much sooner than later!!

I will admit that I don’t care much for Hughes, though I do respect him as a fighter and very hard worker. I did lose some respect for Alves, but I won’t condemn him considering it was somewhat short notice. I do think he has to show he can make 170 properly, before getting a shot. That said, I think Hughes’ days as a contender are over. Remember a few years ago, when he was man handling the division, slamming guys all over the cage? like him or not, he was Quick, strong and had a very good explosion. I haven’t seen that in a while, and I think he is just one of those guys that got old quick. The new generation of fighters seems to be taking over and every time I see him fight, he looks smaller, weaker and slower than his competition. There are a few good matches for him that I wouldn’t mind seeing, Serra the most, but even though I don’t care for him, I don’t want to see a once dominant fighter, hanging around at a much lower performance level.

#11, agreed and I didn’t like that move by Nate. For such a quiet, respectful, religious guy, he sure does some questionable things in the fights, lol. That elbow was legal, and he shouldn’t have had a point deducted, but like they said, it is hard to get those right in the heat of the moment.

    #10

At least there is a spoiler alert, right? We’ve never done it in the past and people bitch and moan so I thought I’d throw it in there for good measure.

Agree or Disagree: Thumb up 0 Thumb down 0

  • Huckaby says:

Shit, you think that’s bad. I had to practically beg Morgan not to post the undercard results before the main card began.

And I went 5-6, tying the single worst I’d ever done on an MMA card before (4-5 at a previous UFC).

    Crazy day.

Just so you know Adam (I’m sure you already do!):

MMA Weekly and MMA Junkie, NO spoiler warning and results in the headline.

Agree or Disagree: Thumb up 0 Thumb down 0

  • Results in the headline of events like this or Japanese events are COMPLETELY NOT ACCEPTABLE in any form.

I’m fine with posting results like these or Japanese results because the fights happened but to put, “ALVES VICTORIOUS” and a big fucking picture of him? Come on.

    ****SPOILER ALERT****

If you visit a MMA News site during and after a pay per view, they post results.

Agree or Disagree: Thumb up 0 Thumb down 0

  • The worst ever turned me off of Sherdog. The highly anticipated Fedor/Cro Cop fight and I was going to order the PPV that night.

I knew not to look for it but I needed other information for something. Well I go to Sherdog looking away and there’s a fucking picture of Fedor with his arm raised.

Sons of bitches destroyed the most anticipated fight of my life.

  • Evan says:

“At least there is a spoiler alert, right? ”

Thats not a spoiler alert…you think the human eye works like that and only focuses on one line?

I agree that people shouldn’t visit an MMA site on the event day but its hillarious you think that somehow protects people from results. Just bury it behind a link. Easy as that.

Agree or Disagree: Thumb up 0 Thumb down 0

  • bjjdenver says:

Damn you Fabricio, you just ruined me going to mma sites and wondering if they had spoiler alerts posted!! :)

  • Rich S. says:

    4 lbs? are you serious?
i’m willing to guaruntee that he weighed in over weight on purpose knowing that Hughes would still accept..

    but..
    with that aside..

Fabricio Werdum def. Brandon Vera via TKO at 4:40 of round one

…i like Werdum and all.. but.. that makes me want to cry.. for real..
… i would say Vera needs to go LHW.. but.. that’s an extremely dangerous division.. plus.. the HW class NEEDS Vera.. soooo..

    and ummm.. good job Morgan..
there’s no room to bitch when the article actually DOES have a SPOILER ALERT..

Agree or Disagree: Thumb up 0 Thumb down 0

  • Fabricio says:

Yeah, I called ESPN and complained because I DVR’d the Yankee game, but needed to watch SportsCenter for another result, and wouldn’t you know they gave me the score of the GD game!!!!!!! I was furious.

Seriously, Let the results fly guys, If people don’t understand by NOW that there will be results on News sites. They deserve the disappointment.

Agree or Disagree: Thumb up 0 Thumb down 0

  • Paul Balsom says:

I was just messing with Adam earlier.

There should be NO spoiler warning. It’s NOT a spoiler!! It already happened! It’s news! If you don’t want to know results, stay off MMA sites. Very easy.

  • Rich S. says:

“If you visit a MMA News site during and after a pay per view, they post results.”

ya.. that’s the ongoing argument.. but.. the one’s that want, or “need” spoilers.. don’t buy that.. for some reason… stupid..

    I mean,
I’ve been viewing this site for a looooooooooooong time..
and if i was going to order the event tonight..
NO WAY would i have come here before then..
    but..
    i wasn’t..
    so..
    i did..
    that’s how it works..
i don’t see what’s soooo hard about not coming to the site until you see the fight..
    ooo that rhymed..

  • JoHn says:

why is everybody focussing on the spoiler alert and not the results themselves, for god sake hughes lost to a f@#$*ing middleweight, i am extremely pissed, but it is hughes fault for taking the fight but i am stilled pissed none the less, does anyone know if the draw is more in the uk or usa on a fight card or can you find out morgan

Agree or Disagree: Thumb up 0 Thumb down 0

  • JoHn says:

it is hard if you are at work, and not doing much business, i was going to watch the fight tonight when i got home, but i dont have the self discipline that some may have, so i knowingly came on to the site to get the results

  • hindsightufuk says:

i doubt there was too much difference between hughes and alves weight come fight time, matt hughes cuts a lot of weight anyway. the sport has just evolved so much in the last couple of years, and a number of fighters have let it pass them, i dont think a fighter who always favours a specific strategy will dominate again. the sport is now truly mixed martial arts. dont think i ever seen matt hughes pull guard before? wasnt a pleasant site….

werdum/vera was pretty boring, much like all UFC heavyweight bouts.
marquadt/leites was hella entertaining, ref shoulda just called vale tudo rules and left them to get on with it. also even if nate hadnt lost that point in third he still wouldnta wone right? it would have been a draw? (too late for math)
    wiman/tavares was a good fight
martin kampmann was dope! great to see him back, nice jui jitsu!

glad they managed to fit 8 fights into the UK broadcast cos it really wasnt a quality card. again. i sold my ticket the second chuck pulled….

  • HexRei says:

#26 if you want to call Alvez a middleweight you might as well call Hughes one too, it’s public knowledge that Hughes weighs 180-185 by fight time. Let’s be real, Hughes didn’t lose because of 4 lbs weight advantage.

Agree or Disagree: Thumb up 0 Thumb down 0

  • JoHn says:

no but hughes enters the cage at 176-179, alves probably entered at 185-188, and yes 6-9 lbs would make a difference, if it didnt why would we have weight classes, and before you get smart i mean the classes closest to eachother, welter, middle and lh

  • Drew says:

I thought the Vera fight was topped prematurely. For Dan Margliota to have the balls to stop that and not the Kimbo fight when he took 20 unanswered shots is incredible. He is very inconsistent and a poor official in my opinion. I have no desire to see him officiate anything ever again.

Agree or Disagree: Thumb up 0 Thumb down 0

  • HexRei says:

where did you get those numbers?

Agree or Disagree: Thumb up 0 Thumb down 0

  • HexRei says:

    that last @ #30:

I cant imagine Hughes only gaining back 6 lbs in 24 hours, even 9 seems low. he’s been cutting weight for like 20 years.

Agree or Disagree: Thumb up 0 Thumb down 0

  • bjjdenver says:

    Ha-Haaaah!

I get to agree with you Hexrei!

There has been speculation of Hughes fighting at 185 for some time now. he cuts a lot of weight, and to his credit is good at it. I doubt if there was much difference in there fight weights.

It would be great if they posted them, like they do in boxing.

    just saw Vera/Werdum
Big Dan.. screw you.. i would’ve rather had Herb Dean [even though, he's actually been a good ref lately] ref that fight than you.. mark my words.. if that fight wouldn’t have stopped right there.. Vera would’ve finished Werdum.. i hate to see huge setbacks come at the hands of refs that just don’t think.. i mean.. if he would of just looked at the clock.. and realized that there was only 20 sec. left.. he would’ve realized that Vera wasn’t really in trouble..

  • Rich S. says:

    Cane/Lambert..
first of all.. Cane looked really good.. as he did in the Irvin fight.. but this time.. things went his way..
second of all.. Lambert? You are stupid! you are a great wrestler/GnP’r.. yet you keep getting in these exchanges with good strikers.. anyone else notice this fight looked exactly like Lambert/Govuiea??
    as for Bisping/Day..
i thought Bisping was gonna have a few more complications with Day.. but.. man.. he’s just down right amazing at MW.. good job..
I’m bout to watch the Hughes fight..

Agree or Disagree: Thumb up 0 Thumb down 0

  • Fabricio says:

36 I was with you up till you mention you thought Vera would win this fight. where would he have won it? Vera was doomed coming in, he has good stand up, but would have never got off. on the ground he was a child playing a mans game, no shot.

Vera needs to drop his “love for ice cream” and take his career seriously and move to 205 where there are interesting fights for him he can be competitive in.

Agree or Disagree: Thumb up 0 Thumb down 0

  • Justin C. says:

MMA should abide by wrestling weight class rules. You don’t make weight, you don’t play, and the forfeight shows up your record, with no paycheck to boot. With harsh rules, this rash of fighters missing weight would stop. This simply isn’t fair to Hughes as it puts him in a spot where if he declines he’s negatively labeled, and if he accepts his career path is in jeopardy. As a fan I would be upset to not see the fight but beleive the benefits of this policy outweigh the negatives.

Agree or Disagree: Thumb up 0 Thumb down 0

  • DPK says:

I don’t think having forfeits for not making weight is the answer, then the fans don’t get anything to watch. I do think that they should have to give their opponent more than 10 or 12%. I think it should be about 10-15% per pound. Then guys would really take it seriously.
Anyone who has cut weight, knows that cutting 4 pounds can make a big difference in a fighter’s energy level and how they perform, and shouldn’t be just dismissed as thinking the results would be the same anyway, even if the fighters weigh the same on fight night.
