Report: Paulo Filho vs. Chael Sonnen to rematch at WEC 36

June 12, 2008 by Adam Morgan

MMA Junkie, by way of Tatame, is reporting that WEC middlweight champion Paulo Filho will rematch Chael Sonnen at WEC 36 in September.

Filho just did a stint in rehab due to depression and chemical dependency and is back to training and focusing on fighting. The two were originally supposed to have a rematch in March but Filho pulled out due to these personal reasons.

The first bout ended in a bit of controversy as Filho was getting dominated for the majority of the fight until Sonnen made a mistake on the ground that allowed Filho to lock on a tight armbar. The referee claimed that Sonned tapped verbally and he clearly had a look of pain on his face but Sonnen claims that he never tapped. The two will now clash again in a rematch to settle things once and for all in September.

I’m really looking forward to this re-match. Filho better have his head right, because Sonnen will be on a mission.

Chael POUNDED this dude in their first fight ….
… not so sure it’ll go the same way again, seeing as Filho “knows” what he’s in for, but i am quite impressed with Chael … did anyone see him DESTOY Brian Baker??? omg !

i thought the armbar that Filho sunk was pretty tight last time. it’s like everyone forgot. Sonnen didn’t tap, but a few more seconds and …

In response to #4 ttt your correct in saying that Sonnen didn’t tap and in a few more seconds the round would have been over and Sonnen would have won the belt by unanimous decision

Yep, Sonnen’s going to whip Paulo’s ass in this fight. You know he’s not going to get caught in another desperation arm bar like last time.
