First, a big thanks to everyone expressed support during the “State of 5 Oz.” address yesterday. Reading all those positive comments was awesome.
Also, I wanted to give everyone a quick heads up that my latest column on CBSSports.com is now available, and it’s a great read!
I recently had the chance to speak with former long-time MMA referee “Big” John McCarthy for an extended interview, which you can now check out by clicking here.
Between “EliteXC: Primetime” two weeks ago and UFC 85 last weekend, I don’t think any stone was left unturned in asking John to discuss all the questionable calls that have been made by officials the last several weeks. McCarthy is a man of high integrity and was completely candid in his responses.
I also had a chance to ask John about rumors that EliteXC had tried to get him to officiate the main event between Kimbo Slice and James Thompson, as well as his thoughts as to whether knees to the head of a downed opponent should be legal.

Dear Big John
Please come back to MMA
damn it, i have a blocker on my computer so i cant read this interview but i am dying to read it, i guess i can wait to read it when i get home… but someone post and let me know what he said about the “early stoppages” please
JoHn I would but its a very long quote…can’t be paraphrased. Its worth the wait though.
Good interview. Thanks.
Great read Sam, nice job.
excellent. good to hear JM’s thoughts on the stoppages and his breakdown of the rule interpretations.
excellent read … Big John is so rad
I can’t believe you didn’t ask him if he agrees that Jesse Taylor aka JT Money aka Coco the monkey from TUF looks like him. That was by far the most important question you could have asked.
Just kidding, great job Sam.
