Report: More plans coming into place for July 26 EliteXC show on CBS

Josh Gross of has revealed several news details pertaining to EliteXC’s next likely show on CBS that is tentatively set for July 26.

The name for the show is expected to be “Unfinished Business” and while a venue has yet to be secured, all signs are pointing to the St. Louis market.

As announced this past Saturday during EliteXC’s “Return of the King” broadcast, the show will headlined by a EliteXC middleweight title rematch between incumbent Robbie Lawler and challenger Scott Smith.

Gross also confirms a report on that indicated welterweight Jake Shields is slated to appear on the show. Shields is expected to compete for EliteXC’s vacant welterweight title but he will not be facing Drew Fickett. Instead, his opponent could come from a trio of possibilities that include Paul Daley, former BodogFIGHT welterweight champion Nick Thompson, and current IFL welterweight champion Jay Hieron.

Another possible addition to the card could be heavyweight Antonio Silva, although his presence is still not a certainty. If he does end up fighting, IFL heavyweight champion Roy Nelson and Robert “Buzz” Berry are considered to be potential opponents.

The show could be rounded out by a women’s MMA bout that possibly might feature Shayna Baszler and Kelly Kobald.

A rumored EliteXC lightweight title rematch between K.J. Noons and Nick Diaz will not be happening on the July card because Diaz is slated for fight next month in Japan for DREAM against Hayato Sakurai.

According to Gross’ report, the show’s undercard is expected to be televised on SHOWTIME and could feature a 140 lbs. match involving Wilson Reis taking on either Bao Quach or Mark Oshiro. However, learned this afternoon that Reis could end up appearing on the CBS portion of the card and that his fight could involve a featherweight title.

We’ve also learned that EliteXC could be looking to return to the East Coast during the latter portion of the summer or in the early part of the fall.
