Congrats Amir on winning. I had picked C.B. to win but was pulling for Amir. Makes his pro debut on national television and pulls out a win. This kid is gonna be good…

Really good fight. A lot of times fighters let the fight get to their head.. and dont fight up to their ability. Amir didnt seem intimidated at all. Great fight. Too bad CB isnt learning from his mistakes last fight.

I live in Richmond, VA and there hasn’t been any coverage for Amir participation in TUF7 much less his somewhat improbably victory. The guy worked as surgical technician at our acclaimed teaching hospital (MCV) and he trained with Team Combat at a school that is set to become the new home of Jens Pulver. Why the media blackout? I blogged about it, but my site rarely touches on MMA. I just did it to give some props to a guy who kept getting Richmond, VA mentioned on TV week after week. Congrats to Amir. Don’t forget about the River City when you take out Anderson Silva ;0)

You gotta love Amir, ever the underdog, even to himself.
His line about not being sure he won is pretty funny.

Jaydog, I think Sadallah’s star power has yet to hit people. He doesn’t look like a fighter or tough guy. If he looked like Rambo I am sure he would be in all your papers/media.

I like Amir alot…however, the unassuming trying to be funny while not trying to be funny shit tik is tired.

I hope to see Amir drop to 170, get a few warm up fights over the next year and a half, then fight Mike Swick. That’d be a nice matchup.

Jaydog… I’m from Richmodn too and the only coverage around here I could find was on Y101. Mainly because they sponser a lot of the Team combat events and know Amir. The morning show (the morning sludge) were complaining about the same lack of media coverage this morning and rightfully so… They (The morning sludge) said that they would be having Dana White and Amir on the show later this week.

Thanks for the heads up, Jeff. I’ve made a habit of avoiding morning radio shows (except for NPR) since I was in middle school, but I think I’ll make an exception to hear MMA talked up in my town. Is “sludge” their actual name? Who knows, maybe the UFC will decide Richmond is ripe for a Fight Night card, although that probably won’t be anytime soon since the press didn’t care to cover a local hero (yet). And, based on Sam Caplan’s negative experience with a local fight promotion (more so, his wife’s trouble) and the hastily put together shows I’ve neglected to attend, maybe Richmond isn’t ready to support (or promote) competent live MMA events. Anyhow, Team Combat can’t complain, because it’s their job to send out press releases about their student’s success. It’s free advertising. But, hey. I don’t even train and I’m talking about how to run a gym/fight promotion.

So Amir does train with Team Combat, but we know and so does Amir that he was trained by a trainer who is not longer at combat and has started his own school. I hope Amir remembers the person who started his career and does the right thing by him.

I am so happy for Amir. He is an unassuming guy and his work ethic is paying off. I hope this will boost his confidence. I wish him all the best as he embarks on this new phase in his life.

Richmond had a parade for Elliot Yamin (another Richmond native) when he was heading into the American Idol finals. But Amir? Not even a mention… yet. I’m sure that a lot is going to change in that guy’s life. But, he doesn’t seem like the type to forget where he came from. Not that RVA is going to great lengths to remind him. Okay, enough on this outta me.
