Report: Noons vs. Diaz not happening on July 26

June 23, 2008 by Adam Morgan

MMA Mania is reporting that a rumored bout between Nick Diaz and K.J. Noons for the EliteXC lightweight title is not happening on the July 26 “Unfinished Business” card, which is rumored to take place in Stockton, California, Diaz’s hometown.

Diaz is still expected to compete on the card but it’s not clear who he will face off against come July 26. Could EliteXC be saving this fight for another CBS card down the line? Too many titles on the line during one card? Stay tuned.

It all started with a flaming dragon and it seems it will end with a smoldering pile of poo.

  2. Tanner on June 23rd, 2008 9:55 pm

Then he should be fighting Mach at Dream. That’s the only fight worth pulling him out of that fight for.

  3. Rich S. on June 23rd, 2008 10:01 pm

Lemme guess, Noon’s was like “I WANNA FIGHT THE BEST! DIAZ ISN’T THE BEST! I’M THE BEST! SO, I NEED TO FIGHT THE BEST.. LIKE.. UMMMM.. WELL, I CAN’T THINK OF ANY WORTHY LW’s RIGHT NOW..”

Noons can avoid all he wants.. but at some point.. he’s gonna have no other challengers.. and he’ll have to fight Diaz..

ps- lol @ the first two commentor’s.. Evan Tanner… :)

  4. JJ on June 23rd, 2008 10:16 pm

I agree the Mach fight should be back on for sure.

  5. HexRei on June 23rd, 2008 10:22 pm

    @#3 Haha!

Seriously, there is no one on EliteXC’s current roster to challenge Noons. Malaipet? Paul Daley, if he comes out of retirement and wants to fight at 155? A revenge rematch with Krazy Horse, who could possibly be in jail right now?
I think Diaz is the most sensible opponent given the recent hype and the less-than-spectacular end due to a cut. I can only speculate that either Noons or Shaw doesn’t like the possibility of a loss to Diaz.

  6. HexRei on June 23rd, 2008 10:33 pm

Also, I have to question the MMA Mania story, they don’t cite a source at all, not even something vague like “an industry insider said”. Just a denial that it is planned. And given that it’s still over a month away and Nick is likely in training camp for a fight in July no matter what happens, I’m not ready to discount this possibility yet.

Whoever MMA Mania talked to also clearly wasn’t ready to announce who WOULD be fighting Noons, or if Noons will even be fighting. It could still happen.

i bet Noons heard that the only available opponent for him in July was Diaz, and he “all of a sudden” became *injured*, or *unable to compete so soon*..

  8. Vern on June 24th, 2008 1:21 am

Noons has a other obligations that day like banging his sweet piece of ass girlfriend while everyone who is here calling him a coward looks up 7 year old pictures of Cindy Margolis

  9. Rich S. on June 24th, 2008 1:30 am

but ya, Nick should DEFINITELY get back to the Mach fight.. that would be better than another fight with EXC right now.. he doesn’t really need to prove himself with small fights in the EXC.. here’s how i see it, consecutive wins over Inoue and Corbbrey is all he needs to get a shot at “King Karl”… so in the meantime, why not go have an all out WAR in Japan?

  10. Rich S. on June 24th, 2008 1:36 am

ummm.. Vern.. are you trying to tell us something, here?

oh, i see, you must be his girlfriend… :)

  11. Vern on June 24th, 2008 1:44 am

I just hate keyboard warriors. I understand that some fighters duck opponents cough*TITO*cough but I hate when their might be a reason like an injury or something that we don’t know about so everyone jumps to calling Noons a pussy. He deserves a little more respect than that.

  12. Rich S. on June 24th, 2008 4:11 am

i’m no keyboard warrior.. don’t worry..

but how many injuries could he have gotten in 0:48??

and he shouldn’t have gotten any injuries from training seeing as how there’s nothing to train *hard* for right now.. not for him..

    AND
it’s obvious that he doesn’t want to fight Diaz.. and i don’t think it’s for the reasons he keeps giving.. because.. if you have such hatred for one man [i.e. Noons' hatred for Diaz] why would you avoid fighting him JUST because there’s “better” guys out there to fight.. and right now.. there ISN’T EVEN better guys out there.. sooooo… that’s not even a legitimate argument..

  13. Two Toes on June 24th, 2008 4:46 am

“but how many injuries could he have gotten in 0:48??

and he shouldn’t have gotten any injuries from training seeing as how there’s nothing to train *hard* for right now.. not for him..”

Where does it say that he suffered an injury?? Stop talking out of your ass because you clearly have no idea about anything. Go smoke another bowl dude. Your brain clearly needs the help.

  14. Nick on June 24th, 2008 6:53 am

If I was Nick Diaz, I would be F@#$in FURIOUS!!! To cancel a title fight at DREAM with one of the greatest fighters on the Planet and not get the fight you thought you were getting, I would tell Elite to go F themselves. I am furious, and I am not even fighting. Shaw plays like he cares about his fighters, but he is no better than any other promoter. Personally, I would love it if Nick fails his drug test and can’t fight on the card, strictly to screw over Elite.
I want Diaz vs Sakurai really badly. Hope he didn’t burn bridges with DREAM.

  15. HexRei on June 24th, 2008 8:34 am

@#13 Look at the context. Rich was responding to the guy who posted right before him who suggested an injury may be the cause of the fight not happening.

  16. William W. on June 24th, 2008 8:52 am

I love how no where in the report does it say Noons says he was injured, yet someone in the comments says it and everyone runs with it like it is fact.

Truth is this match was never officially confirmed and if anyone thinks a guy should have to defend his belt just over a month later, they are insane.

  17. bubbafat on June 24th, 2008 10:33 am

Didn’t Nick say nobody wants to fight him. This would be why. Sign on to a fight with Nick Diaz and get your fight cancelled, rescheduled, or just plain too much outside drama.

  18. Phil on June 24th, 2008 10:54 am

To be perfectly honest, I’d like to see Nick win a fight at 160 before being given a rematch.

If it was going to be an immediate rematch, that’d be fine, but there has to be some sort of punishment for not making weight last time.

  19. Rich S. on June 24th, 2008 1:00 pm

    hey Two Toes,
how about you read Vern’s comment.. then, maybe you’d realize i was responding to what HE SAID about an injury, genius..

  20. Rich S. on June 24th, 2008 2:52 pm

    #16,
i doesn’t seem to me like people are “running” with the fact that he might have an injury..

in fact, all of the comments so far dis-prove it..
