Gary Shaw’s Days Numbered with ProElite?

June 24, 2008 by Sam Caplan

Earlier today, MMAPayout posted an article stating that Gary Shaw may have a very limited amount of time with ProElite:

Speculation within the MMA industry suggests that Gary Shaw’s days at ProElite may be numbered. Rumors suggest that Shaw may be out by the end of the summer, possibly soon after the July 26 CBS event. Multiple sources have told MMAPayout.com that the expected move is another example of CBS’s growing influence on the company. Santa Monica Capital Partners, the largest shareholder in the company, is also believed to have taken a more active role in the company of late.

As more news develops, Five Ounces of Pain will be on top of it. Special thanks to MMA Mania for the assist.

Im not sure what is worse, an mma promoter w/ a Boxing promoters attitude or everything being in the hands of CBS.

    Better with CBS I think.

But lets wait and see…MMA news is a roller coaster of facts/rumors/surprises.

I’ll give Shaw credit for admitting that he’s a promoter of entertainment and not neccessarily interested in putting on the best fights.
Not many guys will admit that.

Who knows if this is true, but if true it’s a cautionary tale for White and the UFC. Sell your soul for a network deal, and sooner or later the devil will come to collect.

Sounds like CBS wants to clean up the EliteXC image - no more post-fight brawls reminiscent of boxing. I’m convinced that stuff was contrived to boost interest in upcoming fights.

    @#1

I agree. I don’t know how to feel about this. Slimey promoter to be booted or mega-corp running mma promotion behind closed doors.

Thank god, I was having a bad day until I read this.
I just hope they get a good MMA guy, and don’t go looking for some other boxing promoter to fill his spot.

shaw has be fukkin up lately on the boxing side… he had two of his really good boxing prospects pretty much dump him (contractually) cause he wasnt following through on offering them the right amount of fights for the year… nonito donare (who smoked his other cash cow darchyinan and james kirkland who is a bad mofo)

i guess mma was his top priority .. but i guess its back to boxing… this is probally a power play on cbs part…

The only bad part about CBS running the show is that we will likely see multiple “Vote for Obama” banners pasted over everything….sigh. lol
