I personally don’t think that Jesse Taylor is beyond redemption. Sure the guy is a bad drunk; I think there is some truth that alcohol tends to bring out the “real you” so if you are a repressed maniac, you will become an overt maniac when you drink. But if what Taylor says is true, he has given up drinking.

Jesse still seems a bit full of himself saying that the “contract should be his” as he never fought and beat Amir Sadollah. And truth be told, I don’t think he would beat him. Sure Taylor is a genetic freak, but he is also very dumb as well.

I quoted the term that I feel exemplifies the modern MMA champion as the “Omega factor” and is the sheer intelligence and composure needed to win fights. Jesse Taylor is extremely low on the Omega factor. Fighters like Lyoto Machida or Diego Sanchez are examples of fighters that are high in this quality, as well as the budding talent that is Amir Sadollah.

I think Jesse Taylor will be back, but he will never rise as high or as far as Amir will in the future or MMA.

Yeah, he screwed up, and richly deserves his “time out.” I’m just not sure he should get the harsh criticism. On the other hand are there any reports about what he did to “terrorize” people at the casino? That’s the word used in the stories I’ve read here and elsewhere, but nobody explained what specifically happened. Inquiring minds want to know.

Also, I should have added that Jesse wasn’t busted with ‘roids like Sherk, Sylvia and Bonnar. You could argue that’s worse, depending on the what actually happened at the casino.

Apparently he did terrorize a bunch of people in a casino, mike. I agree that he should be allowed back in the UFC but I think that walking into a Fertitta-owned Casino, on the UFC’s dime, and screaming at and scaring the patrons, is a step above not making weight, at least in regard to the retaining a contract with the UFC itself.

It’s not like it was a sport issue, and it’s not like he was flipping shit to a bunch of trained fighters contracted to stay in the same house with him on camera for many weeks… these were just people at the casino/hotel trying to enjoy themselves and (admittedly, only from what I recall Dana saying) he targetted female patrons which is pretty nasty.

I think he has an alcohol problem and I agree we should maintain perspective… let him sit for another three months and think about the opportunity he threw away.

Let’s maintian some perspective. He didn’t get in the Octagon and run away from his opponent like Starnes. He didn’t fail to make weight like Lutter or Alves. He didn’t beat up his girl friend like Charles Bennett. He didn’t trash talk anybody on TUF like Tito or pick fights with guys in the house. Whatever he did rates way below those behaviors. He has some criticism coming his way, but not to that extent.

I think the reason everyone is so harsh is because the guy pulled such a monumental episode of “stupid shit.” You are on TV, you are fighting in the UFC with a chance to be the tUF winner and go on to fame and a very comfortable living. Common sense would dictate someone with an IQ higher than a beech nut would be able to not go roid rage and ruin that opportunity.

And I hope you realize the irony that is your comment. You’re hatin’ on the haters, making you……….a hater.

We all have done stupid shit when we were drunk. Jesse just happened to mess up at the wrong time. I think what he did was retarded but I do think he deserves another shot. After all the point of the show was to find the BEST fighter and Jesse is the BEST fighter. I think he’ll show us his true colors as time goes on.
