Cummo vs. McCory official for UFC 87

A welterweight encounter between Luke Cummo vs. Tamdan McCorry has officially been added to UFC 87: Seek and Destroy on August 9, according to UFC.com.

Cummo, 6-5 lifetime, according to Sherdog’s fight finder, gained great notoriety for his appearance during the second season of “The Ultimate Fighter,” where he fought and lost to Joe Stevenson in the finals of the welterweight tournament.

Cummo, who is 3-3 lifetime in the UFC, last fought in March at UFC 82, where he lost to retired Marine Luigi Fioravanti via unanimous decision.

McCrory is one of the youngest fighters in the UFC but is already a veteran of nine career fights. He’s won eight bouts compared to just one loss, which he suffered in his last bout for the UFC against Akihiro Gono last November at UFC 78.

Soon after sustaining the first defeat of his career, McCrory informed UFC V.P. of Talent Relations Joe Silva that he was looking to take a brief hiatus from the sport in order to focus more on education.

UFC 87 will take place at the Target Center in Minneapolis, Minn. and will feature Georges St. Pierre defending the UFC welterweight title against Jon Fitch. Bouts between Brock Lesnar and Heath Herring as well as Kenny Florian vs. Roger Huerta are planned as well.

This is a nice prelim match up. These guys have similar styles and it should be an exciting fight. I think Tamden is a bit better on the ground though and that will be the diffrence in this one.

Luigi is not a retired Marine. To be retired you must have put in 20 years or more. He served 1 tour of duty. That makes him a Former Marine.

Well, I’ve been told by Marines that there is no such thing as a former Marine, unless you’ve received a dishonorable discharge. All the Marines that I have spoken with have indicated that once a Marine, you’re always a Marine.

well, ever since i saw Cummo on the show, i’ve liked him.. he was the quiet nerdy/weird guy that kept to him self.. and then he gets these devistating KO victories.. he’s got a good ground game with great striking.. he’s just.. small.. it seems that his problems always come from big dudes.. hence, his losses to Goulet and Luigi..

  • [...] Tamden McCrory vs Luke Cummo @ UFC 87 August 7th Fresh off his coffee enema suspension, creepy Luke Cummo returns to the Octagon to face off with Tamden McCrory in what many people are dubbing “The battle of the geeks”. Here’s hoping Luke doesn’t come out flat like he did against Luigi Fioravanti or that could be the end for our favorite wierdo. [...]
