Well to Sherdog’s credit:

“The bout is currently pending approval from the California State Athletic Commission, according to a rep from Silva’s American Top Team.”

It sounds like they had a source from ATT, and it wasn’t just rampant speculation.

Perhaps the real reason why the fight isn’t happening stems from more problems with Silva getting sanctioned in Cali, again.

Hold on a minute. It seems to me that it appears that ole’ Jared Shaw said he wanted to “clarify” his remarks (amend?) and then goes on to say that Rogers MIGHT fight Kimbo in the next 12 months. Judging the Shaw mentality I think that he probably said something that he couldn’t back up, and then got a verbal lashing from Papa.

After all, there is a very good chance that Brett Rogers will end the Kimbo gravy train;)

Truth be told, we don’t know what Shaw has said and if he is simply retracting earlier statements he made. I would not put it past him.

Btw, I really don’t think Gary Shaw is good for MMA. He brings a whole lot of boxing sleeziness to EliteXC. Dancing girls and the Noons Diaz fiasco. Plus I bet he put Brett Rogers up to calling out Kimbo Slice

I would also like to say best wishes to Gary Shaw. He could take a step and look at his life to see things clearly. He’s a busy man. Getting everything in order when you know you need to is a good thing. Doing it and making it happen is even better. He’s worked hard at trying to make EXC work and it has so far. Let’s see what happens next.

Well, this kinda suck’s. It least there is a chance Sergei Kharitonov might end up in the UFC. Maybe not but it’s worth hoping for.

Watch Minotauro Nogueira vs. Kharitonov from Final Conflict 2004. It was an all out WAR. Seeing them fight again in the UFC would be awesome. I hope someone from the UFC is reading this or would mention it to them. Sergei deserves to be there. Imagine if he was on the 7/19 card? HOLY SMOKES!!!

Caplan really does check up on tons of stories and spends most of his day on the phone. He takes no small story for granted.

We don't post a small story without confirmation.

I just assume Sherdog and mmaweekly are good to go. Apparently not.

This really begs a question that no one has asked – why is MMA journalism in such a sorry state? Can you imagine if any other sport had journalists who act like MMA guys do with their “post first, investigate later” methods? In the last year we have see so many false, inaccurate and downright foolish stories from “respected” MMA news sites.

I actually like this site the best because they actually bother to investigate and get to the source of things (like this; or when Caplan interviewed refs and doctors from EliteXC’s Jersey show). But what does it say about industry when the considered top site (Sherdog) is publishing completely false stories? And Sherdog is involved with Yahoo? Ouch!
