I have the exact same injury + minor ACL tear did it 5 months ago. I reckon hughes will be out for a good 8 months.

Adam, if Hughes does not fight Serra, do you think Serra could fight Diego Sanchez? I think that would be a fight where the winner should fight Koscheck, provided Koscheck beats Lytle which he should do for all intensive purposes…What’s your take on that scenario?

#11, i agree that it isn’t enough to headline a ppv. It would make a great headliner for a Spike show or TUF finale, but otherwise, i see it as a 2nd fight at best, and I really want to see it.

Since the Serra/Hughes TUF, Serra has lost to GSP and Hughes has lost to GSP and Alves. Meanwhile, Jesse Taylor’s drama and Samir’s unexpected win on this season’s TUF have taken center stage. I don’t see Serra/Hughes as a big enough draw to be the main event on a pay per view. Too much time has passed, and it doesn’t have the same drama that it once had. Serra’s injury after TUF prevented an immediate match up, but it was a mistake to wait so long.

#7 As I said I doubt he will fight in December I can’t imagine him fighting Serra and not being 100%.As for how long he was training before the injury it could’ve been months.I played football in high school for a couple months before I finally blew my knee out completly.

ON #3, it depends on the degree. Totally torn tendons don’t reattach themselves to bone or to each other, partially torn tendons, if rested, can scar and “build up” again. But that takes many months. At Hughes’s age, this isn’t a good sign for an immediate fight.

Hughes is doing well to get a second opinion.

#4 – It’s possible he could fight on that date, but he won’t be 100% fit. That’s a nasty injury. Wonder how long he was training through “a slight knee issue” before he did the real damage?

#4 I’ve had 3 knee surgurys myself.Now his injury is a little worse than mine were but at the minimun its about 2 months before you start to feel a 100%.So I would have to say that if he does have the surgury I doubt he will be fighting in december.

No surgery is better. Surgery creates more “wounds” that must also heal, and then be rehab’d. Especially for an athlete.

Excatly. I really want to see that fight, mostly because of the drama. I love a good story behind the fight. Thats what makes them exciting. But thats the worst thing that could have happened. The delay will kill the joy.
