I hear ya Huck. Look, I like Gilbert and he has a bright future, but what exactly had he done to be considered a top 10 LW? He beat Kawajiri and Guida, both by decision. I’m not saying I knew Thomson would win (I didn’t) but the difference between them was probably marginal. Gilbert doesn’t have KO power or elite striking. He’s tough as nails and is strong with very good BJJ. But he might be the most overrrated LW since any current Japanese LW.

DAMMIT I knew Thomson would beat Melendez.

Future reference: any statement I ask to the participants I believe. I just thought it was such a rare thought I had to be wrong even though I knew he’d win. I don’t want to be the ass to pick the huge upset and be wrong. Damn you people. I miss out on picking big upsets all the time because I hear 40 people say I’m wrong before the fight.

Actually I don’t mind when they agree if they bring different points. That is actually what made me side with the Junkie. Even when he agreed I liked the points he made better. For instance on the officiating question he said that people who screw up should be gone, not sent to the minor leagues. Caplan made a good point about Diaz yo-yoing on weight and that taking a toll on his body.

I liked this article so much that I CALL FOR A REMATCH.

As long as each person presents an original perspective with unique points, it doesn’t matter whether they agree or disagree.

The duel is a good column as is–bloated, manufactured arguments wouldn’t add a thing. Keep up the good work.

I understand that but again this isn’t PtI or Baseball Tonight on ESPN where we make up arguments. Both people say what they have to say and nothing is heard beforehand or planned. I could probably play devil’s advocate on anything but that just makes me look stupid if I’m going against what I believe.

A little diasagreement goes a long way, Huck. I love this column, but to be honest, it’s a tad redundant when it turns into a “You’re right!!”, “No, YOU’RE right!!!” competition. Good information, but not much of a duel at all.
