5 Oz. Exclusive: Vinicius Magalhaes to appear on eighth season of “The Ultimate Fighter”

July 2, 2008 by Sam Caplan

imagem-0131.JPGMultiple sources have informed FiveOuncesOfPain.com in recent days that light heavyweight prospect Vinicius “Pezao” Magalhaes will be a part of the eighth season of “The Ultimate Fighter” reality television series on Spike TV.

Magalhaes, whose nickname “Pezao” means “Bigfoot” in Portuguese, is 2-2 with one no contest according to Sherdog’s fight finder. He trains out of Team Quest in Temecula, Calif., where he also serves as a trainer.

A native of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, Magalhaes is a Royler Gracie jiu-jitsu black belt who has competed in several top-level grappling events. While competing for the Professional Submission League, Magalhaes reportedly recorded a victory against renowned Abu Dhabi champion Robert Drysdale, who incidentally is slated to serve as an assistant coach on TUF 8.

Magalhaes is the second fighter confirmed by Five Ounces of Pain to be a part of the upcoming season of TUF 8. On Tuesday, we confirmed that Hawaiian lightweight Shane Nelson will be involved with the show.

TUF 8 will feature lightweight and light heavyweight fighters all vying for the right to become the next “Ultimate Fighter” by winning a multi-fight six-figure contract with the UFC. Several sources have indicated that the taping for the upcoming season was completed late last week.

The new season is expected to premiere on Wednesday, September 17. The TUF 8 premiere will be preceded by a live UFC Fight Night 15 telecast that is expected to feature matchups between Mac Danzig vs. Clay Guida and Houston Alexander vs. Eric Schafer.

The coaches for the show will be UFC interim heavyweight champion Antonio Rodrigo Nogeuira and former UFC heavyweight champion Frank Mir.

Comes from a good camp, good grappling pedigree. Not a whole lot of LHW prospects on the show are probably going to be near him on the ground, should at least be interesting to see how he does.

Are they only picking from the top camps this year?

Wow, this guy picked off Drysdale huh? He must be pretty wicked on the mat. They act like Drysdale walks on water at Xtreme Couture. Can’t wait to see this guy in action.

On a side note, if this guy trains at Quest, why is it all the wrestlers over there look like a flipped-over turtles on their backs? Maybe he should be teaching BJJ there.

Yes, you can see him on the Spike TV teaser.
I heard he didn’t even make in the house though.
A friend of mine works out with him and told me that he was gone only for couple days.

    I think he does…

Vinicious was my BJJ instructor at Team Quest. The show should benefit him due to the fact that Nogueira is on the show. Should be interesting!
