If I was Irvin I really wouldn’t talk a whole lotta shit here… bad idea, remember what happened to Chris Leben?

I am really interested in how this fight will go down, especially if they both stay standing.

Also, Silva’s clinch is extremely technical Irvin… just because you’re in Thailand at Fairtex doesn’t mean you’re qualified yet.

    2. knockemout on July 13th, 2008 8:44 pm

      very small minded by Irvin

    3. MMA Man Up on July 13th, 2008 8:47 pm

Totally agree with you no need to awaken a sleeping giant. Just keep the trash talk to a minimal, and maybe he takes you lightly and you catch him solid and KO him.

    4. Patrick on July 13th, 2008 9:04 pm

Precisely, if anyone watches Spider Silva they know that the guys who don’t talk trash typically get 1-2 minutes before the onslaught, the guys who talk trash (who number very few) just get rushed, maybe that’s what Irvin wants… I sure as hell know I’d rather get the two minute feeling out period though, even if I know that Silva is doing it to measure range and check positioning and transitions.

We’ll see, from what I’ve seen of Spider it takes a lot to get him angry, he’s typically all business all the time… but man I would not fuck around with that guy, and you really can’t talk shit… there’s really nothing you should insult the guy over, he’s awesome.

    5. Funky k on July 13th, 2008 9:25 pm

      Irvins gonna pull the upset

    6. joey on July 13th, 2008 9:41 pm

Irvin wont pull an upset. hes gonna throw leg kicks and leave his hands down as always when he throws him. silva is gonna capitalize on it and TKO Irvin.

    7. Skwirrl on July 13th, 2008 10:14 pm

Anderson is great but not as great as the fickle MMA fans beleive. His only great win is Hendo. His run at LHW won’t last very long.

    8. Joey (a different one) on July 13th, 2008 10:34 pm

If you think thats trash talking you are insane. Also watch some of his other interviews about this fight, he’s pretty damn humble. That said, I bet on Irvin, not because I think he’s going to win, but I think a +400 line at least warrants it when someones stepping up 20 pounds.

    9. double A-ron on July 13th, 2008 10:46 pm

I beleive A.Silva Will shut Irvin up and also anyone else who beleives what Irvin is saying. The dude is just trying to build some hype for the fight that Silva is gonna dominate. The outcome will be Silva showing him how technical that clinch really is and kneeing him right smack dab in his cock holster and Irvin getting KTFO………… Any Questions!

    10. sprewell on July 13th, 2008 10:49 pm

his only great win is Hendo, lmao

      dumbest shit I’ve ever read

    11. Bad Monkey on July 13th, 2008 11:16 pm

‘His only great win is Hendo’, YOU win dumbass of the month for that idiotic comment.

He whipped Rich Franklin’s ass twice, Lutter, Leben, Hendo, etc. The guy is awesome. I’ll be interested to see how he handles someone as big as Irvin if James can really connect with a power shot, but I just think Anderson’s going to be too technical a striker for Irvin.

And don’t give Irving too hard a time about talking trash, you know all these dopey media dorks really try to egg these guys on to say some shit on camera.

    12. Bad Monkey on July 13th, 2008 11:17 pm

      Whoops, Irvin, not Irving.

    13. king mah mah on July 13th, 2008 11:55 pm

Yeah silva will probably win,but i normally go for the under dog. I hope Irvin wins just to show that anderson isn’t unbeatable.

    14. king mah mah on July 13th, 2008 11:57 pm

I think people will under estimate Irvin just like people did forrest.

    15. king mah mah on July 13th, 2008 11:57 pm

      K.O. by Irvin 2nd round!

    16. Cliff H on July 14th, 2008 12:03 am

I would love to see Rampage knock his ass out. There is no way Silva could take a punch and not get KO’ed. He better drop back down. Liddel,Rampage or Forrest would shut Silva down in the first round. Dana gave him a generic fighter!!!!!!!!!!!

    17. king mah mah on July 14th, 2008 12:28 am

Yeah I think Rampage would definitely knock him out. Totally agree Cliff H.

    18. Cliff H on July 14th, 2008 12:57 am

Would love to see that on a high light reel. LOL!!!!

    19. Revjames13 on July 14th, 2008 1:58 am

After seeing Rampage unable to enforce his will against Griffin I wouldn’t dream of saying he would definitely KO Silva. If he couldn’t catch Forrest what makes you think he could catch one of the most fluid and elusive strikers ever to step into the octagon?

I now think AS could beat Rampage and Griffin as well, though they present very different challenges. He won’t fight Machida, so no point going there, but as far as the top LHWs go, I think Chuck would be his toughest challenger because of his excellent counter striking ability. Wandy would be tough too, but he tends to rush in a bit and I think he’d get caught. Chuck’s also harder to take down, and Anderson’s ground game is notable enough that this could be a pretty big factor against other world class strikers, where Anderson actually has to shift to plan B and try to win with his jits.

There are very few guys that could push him off his stand up, but the top LHWs (Page, Chuck, Wandy, Machida) might (and that’s only a might) be able to do this.

    20. king mah mah on July 14th, 2008 2:13 am

silva sucks, i want him to get knocked out!! just kidding, but i do want him to get knocked out!

    21. paddiosf on July 14th, 2008 4:52 am

I don’t understand why alot of people want to see Anderson Silva get Knockout or beat? The guy is Pure Class and a Great Champion, what more do you want from him?

    22. Lance Thomas on July 14th, 2008 5:48 am

Dominant champions are good for the sport and for the UFC, but if Irvin could pull off a miracle win, this would prove to everybody how tough the LHW division in the UFC really is. Irvin is not even a top 10 LHW in the UFC (borderline) Having said this, there is no pressure on A. Silva, win or lose, it is not his natural weight class, so he can simply go back to 185 and continue to terrorize the division.

    23. MMA SKOOL™ on July 14th, 2008 9:09 am

That’s not trash talking. Just confidence. Irvin said all the right things.

It should be a good fight, too bad I’ll probably miss most of it while watching Tim “the arm bar waiting to happen” Sylvia vs. Fedor.

    24. mike wolfe on July 14th, 2008 10:30 am

Anybody know Silva’s walking around weight? I’d be curious to know how close he is to 205 day to day.

    25. Zantetzuken on July 14th, 2008 12:30 pm

@24 210, i think he is going to get KOed by Irvin. That or outmuscled on the ground.

    26. Mike Wolfe on July 14th, 2008 1:00 pm

      #25

Maybe. Silva’s always looked small to me, especially in comparison to larger middleweights like Franklin, and he still wins. His knees are devastating and he has ko power in his punches. Maybe he’s bitten off more than he can chew, but I’m not betting against him.

    27. Payaam on July 14th, 2008 1:27 pm

Anderson Silva would beat Rampage. Nothing against Rampage. Anderson is on another platform as a fighter. You will see it July 19. And you will see more in the future. True.

    28. 124124 on July 14th, 2008 2:32 pm

wow he does wanne get murdered by saying that!!!

    29. MMA SKOOL™ on July 14th, 2008 2:47 pm

Everybody needs to calm down. Imaginations are running wild here. This isn’t going to be like Dan Severn taking on Joyce Gracie.

Irvin is bigger than Silva, but they’re virtually the same height and Silva probably still has the reach advantage. Irvin will have a lot of punching power, but he’s not a grappler so his weight advantage isn’t going to be a huge deal. If he gets tired throwing bombs and decides to use his weight to press Silva up against the cage to stall, there will be knees and elbows to contend with.

Obviously Silva doesn’t have the power that Irvin has, but he still crumpled Henderson, Franklin, Marquardt, Leben, Newton, etc, with his striking. And its not like Silva hasn’t sparred plenty with “bigger” people like the Axe Murderer, etc, in his career.

Should be a good fight. Silva will RNC Irvin or TKO him by about the second round, unless Irvin can land a lucky bomb like he has in the fights he’s won.

    30. MMA SKOOL™ on July 14th, 2008 2:49 pm

      whoops. I meant Royce.

    31. Tony Fennen on July 14th, 2008 3:43 pm

I see it like this… Silva wins he is the #1 fighter in the world

Silva loses…. He is just the #1 185 in the world.

      Either Silva is #1

    32. double A-ron on July 14th, 2008 4:32 pm

      i agree w/ #19,21,27,28,29,31 and of course myself#9.
Like #31 put it is almost a win win situation for the best fighter around.
Irvin has a loss to mike kyle(10-7)anyway I seen where he had a no contest against bobby southworth- they fell out of the ring. Did anyone see this? was it trough the cage door or what? thanks

    33. foreman83 on July 14th, 2008 6:08 pm

get off of silvas nuts people! Shit, the only reason he seems like a classy guy is because he cant speak english! Hard to talk shit when you cant find the words.

    34. platypus on July 15th, 2008 6:38 am

      comments r funni, pikachu!

    35. Cliff H on July 15th, 2008 3:32 pm

Revjames13- Did you not see the Rampage/Forrest fight? Rampage stunned Forrest a few times. Yeah he didn’t get knocked out but it was close. Silva hasn’t got hit by someone of that size and power. It is a KO in my book. Chuck got KO’ed by Rampage twice so why do you think chuck can do it to Silva?

    36. Kevin on July 15th, 2008 10:17 pm

Everyone needs to watch the Affliction PPV on Saturday July 19th, at the same time as this GARBAGE Spike TV free card. Download the Silva/Irvin fight later, the real fights are on the Affliction: Banned card.

    37. American Hero on July 21st, 2008 1:18 pm

For all of you who talked sh#! about Irvin beating Anderson Silva, what do you think now? One guy called it correctly earlier in these posts so Kudos to him. JI threw strong but not smart kicks and didn’t cover up afterwards. he didn’t expect his leg to get grabbed obviousy which is lazy in itself. That was actually a sign of disrespect to one of the most technical fighters on the planet. If you are going to throw a punch after a kick, it’s got to be damn near simultaneously. he didn’t do that and he paid. For all of you AS haters, don’t bet against him from now on please.

    38. greg on July 21st, 2008 6:40 pm

ohh.. silva catches irvin’s leg and punches him.. Either Irvin sucks really bad with not defending the shot silva threw or silva is just a fucking puncher with sprawl..

pick your scenario.. If you know your champion you know that silva only has striking on his side and some jitsu, Irvin is a cowboy and got his ass knocked out because of it.. Silva went up 20 and eventually he will get hit by a light heavyweight and his ass will be knocked out.. It’s only a matter of time in MMA, if you don’t think so then you don’t know shit about competitive martial arts..

PS.. Dana White is still coddling his champs.. Where the hell are the ACL tears in these jagoffs!!! Quit protecting these so called champs Dana, they need to get injuries just like anyone else in our sport you ass clown!!!
