Release date set for Randy Couture’s turn as “The Scorpion King 2″
“The Scorpion King 2: Rise of a Warrior,” which stars UFC heavyweight champion Randy Couture in the title role, will not be receiving a widespread theatrical release in movie theaters. Instead, the film will be released nationally by Universal Studios Home Entertainment on DVD on Aug. 19. The DVD will be available in both Hi-Def and Blu-ray.
The plot of the film centers around Mathayus, played by Michael Copon, witnessing the death of his father at the hands of the king, played by Couture. Out to avenge the death of his father, Mathayus transforms himself into “the most feared warrior of the ancient world.”
In other Couture-related news, his charity, “The Foundation,” which was set up to assist disabled veterans returning home from military action, is planning a charity golf outing. Hey, I love Randy but he really didn’t impress in Red Belt. To me he came off, distant, sputtered his lines poorly and seemed disingenuous to the whole role. In other words, “Dudes, his acting sucked.”
But then let me say this, Arnold in the original Conan the Barbarian wasn’t much of an improvement and the Govinator certainly went on to record some pretty decent performances during his better days. So i guess what i am saying is…. maybe Randy will get better, but he’s gonna need to do some more mat work at acting school if he wants to play anything more than silent and menacing looking ‘cauliflower eared’ henchmen.

Press releases for a year ago indicated that this was a direct-to-home video release. It wasn’t supposed to be on the big screen.
