It doesn't hurt that he was in the TUF comeback show and made it to the finale against serra, either. That all said, what you're missing is that he HAS been put to the field before by the UFC many times. It's just that he always goes somewhere else, wins some fights, and comes back, which is actually exactly how Dana wants things to work.
