Keith Jardine and Brandon Vera could be added to UFC 89 on Oct. 18

July 23, 2008 by Sam Caplan

According to a report on MMAjunkie.com, UFC light heavyweight Keith Jardine revealed on a Albuquerque radio show that he will be facing Brandon Vera at UFC 89 on October 18 at the NIA in Birmingham, England.

The UFC has yet to make an official announcement about Jardine’s next bout.

UFC 89 is currently headlined by a middleweight matchup between Michael Bisping and Chris Leben. However, the Leben vs. Bisping matchup could move down the card in light of rumors that a UFC middleweight title match between incumbent Anderson Silva and challenger Patrick Cote could be added to the show as well.

Looks like a great match up to me. Even better than the Bisping vs Leben “Headliner”….

i think the reason for silva vs cote being added to the card, sets the bisping vs leben fight as the next mw contender fight

Vera is going to get his ass handed to him if comes I looking anywhere as bad as he did against Andy.

I can’t put together a proper sentence but you get the idea.

Vera will have his hands full with Jardine, who is thicker and stronger. Jardine does well against counter strikers (Liddell, for example) and poorly against fighters who press the action (Alexander and Silva, for example). Vera is more of a counter striker, imo, and that will play to Jardine’s strengths.

Another quality fight for what is going to be a great card. Vera has alot of time to cut weight properly for this fight, so he should look better than he did against Andy. Jardine needs this win to stay in contention, he has wins over Forrest and Chuck, so he could put himself right back in the title picture with 2-3 wins, and Vera would be a good name to start.

C’mon Jardine! Win one already!! I’d like to see him back in the chase for the belt! He’s got to know that his stand up game needs vast improvement or that his strengths are his kicks and ground game.

Good matchup and a good test for Vera at 205. I think Vera will do a lot better with the weight cut. He looked great in the first round against Andy but seemed to gas after that.

Also isn’t Thales Leites more deserving of a title shot than Cote? Just a thought.
