5 Oz. on CBS Sports: A profile on Wilson Reis

My weekly column for CBSSports.com is now available.

For this week’s article, I did a profile on Wilson Reis, one of the top featherweights in the world. Reis will be making his SHOWTIME debut this Saturday at 8 p.m. in a bout against Bryan Caraway to be contested at 140 pounds.

More and more people are getting to know Reis as a fighter, so I decided to offer more of a glimpse at to who he is as a person.

You will get to read a lot of good background information about Reis and learn where he came from, how he got involved in jiu-jitsu, his move to the United States, and more, including my first-ever encounter with him.

I talked to several people for the article, including fellow media members Dann Stupp of MMAjunkie.com and Jordan Breen of Sherdog.com, as well as friend and training partner Jared Weiner along with Reis’ first-ever promoter, Ed Hsu of Combat in the Cage.

In addition to being one of the most bad ass BJJ guys you’ll ever see, wilson is also one of the nicest guys you’ll ever meet. I hope he ascends to the highest ranks in MMA, as there aren’t many guys as talented, driven or fun to watch.

    Sam, great read.

He’s opening a BJJ school in Red Bank, NJ which is awesome.
