The craziest mistake they did was not air the Heavy weight fight. Since when despite the popularity of the fighters does a Heavyweight champion not at least draw a second main event?

Anyone who even entertains the notion that Lawler could compete in the Ufc middleweight division is clearly off his rocker! Bisping would dispose of him. Marquardt would bang him out. Henderson would destroy him. Damian Maia would finish him. Let me not forget Leben would drop him. Shields however would be a tough guy but he would get stop by Thiago Alves

Lawler and Shields are definitely top 10 fighters, but the rest of the card was full of journeymen. I wouldn't mind seeing those two guys in the UFC (for the 2nd time in Lawler's case) to see how they stack up against stiffer competition. If Kimbo and Gina both lose their fight in October (and they very well could, given their rumored competition), it'll be a HUGE blow to EliteXC, one they might not recover from.

Production value of this show was much improved. I used to like Mauro when he called the PRIDE cards, but he's starting to wear on me to the point I'd rather listen to Goldie. Where's Bas and The Fight Professor when you need them?

Lawler is basically Rich Franklin . . . he can't beat the UFC's few best but he could beat the rest. I believe this very website has Shields ranked as the number 4 welterweight. He wouldn't beat GSP, I know that, but he would take a good run at Kos and Karo. Ooh, and thank you for calling me a makeshift douche bottle instead of a full blown douche bag, I appreciate that modicum of respect! Thank god I'm the bottle and not the vinegar water . . . yuk!

Joey you are a plastic bottle filled with vinegar and water used to clean stinky vaginas. Please keep in mind before you try to make an arguement against someone elses post dont name one of the fighters (Lawler) who actually did washout of the UFC. Also, sorry to ruin your parade but Jake Shields isnt good enough to carry any of the top 10 UFC 170s jock. Im not even going to comment on the girls again because it isnt worth my time. As far as being a Dana fan boy, if that means im smarter, more knowledgable about mma, and an overall better person than you then you are absolutely correct.

at the end of the day it was tasteful card with quality matchups, good pacing, and intelligent commentary and excellent production values. UFC production has gotten very stale and repetitive, EXC has put in the effort to keep the promotions looking fresh.

i bet it did decent enough numbers on showtime and through reruns of those fights plus live gate they ended up okay. they were taxing their expectations anyway, you can't develop mainstream stars for CBS in only two cards, patience gentlemen.

2.0 for a Saturday night show during summertime with few 'big' names. Frankly its not bad, considerign Lawler and Diaz were the 'big' draws.

Also UFC84 was being broadcast at the same time, plus Cotto/Margito drawing from the same base of fans.

Cobra,

The initial report was that they did 2.62 million, with a 1.0 in the 18-49 demo.

The OVERALL rating is 1.9.

Nothing was off. The only thing is that some folks misread and thought there was conflicting numbers. The numbers never changed.

Ratings can be confusing, and I think it is clear that some folks still don't understand them.

1. Jeremy . . . "And those numbers is correct." Sorry, just when you bust someone up for fact checking you should at least get basic grammatical rules correct. Haha, sorry, I'm kidding.

2. BJJ in VA . . . "EliteXC is made up of hype without substance" I thought the fights and the presentation were actually pretty good. Better than UFN 14 in my opinion. I don't think you can say that show was without substance, just because the first one wasn't all that great. Also 'Suge Knight' has had THREE professional MMA fights and ONE amateur fight . . . give him a fucking break. Kimbo would get his ass kicked by any top fighter for sure, I'm with you on that. Kimbo has also had THREE FIGHTS. No one fights the top fighters in their first several fights. Those girls would probably at least beat Hermes Franca. UFC Washouts? So there it is, you are a Dana fanboy. I love Dana White, I watch UFC religously but at least I have my own opinion and can see through the bull when its fed to me. Antonio Silva, Robbie Lawler, and Jake Shields would beat the majority of UFC fighters in their weight class. You must be a great fan of the sport when you decide to badmouth an entire promotion because girls and suge knight are fighting. It was a good show, good presentation, and i found it to be very entertaining for free TV. On a side note, this is one ugly looking block of words I just made.

The 18-49 number is still higher, but only slightly. Elite was brought in to pull strong numbers in the 18-49 crowd.

48 Hours, Elite's lead-in, did a .8. Elite's increase was not too much and was not enough for CBS to lead the night in that demo.

If Elite can draw a solid 18-49, they can do smaller overall audiences.

The 18-49 ave on the 19th was .8, on the 12th it was a .9. So not too much less than what Elite did, but with bigger overall audiences.

Elite is partially to blame because they did not work hard to build up last night's show. It seems like they expected a weak night and accepted their fate. They should have done more, in the last two weeks, to build up the hype.

Had they done so, I think it would have done somewhat better.

The 18-49 number is still higher, but only slightly. Elite was brought in to pull strong numbers in the 18-49 crowd.

48 Hours, Elite’s lead-in, did a .8. Elite’s increase was not too much and was not enough for CBS to lead the night in that demo.

If Elite can draw a solid 18-49, they can do smaller overall audiences.

The 18-49 ave on the 19th was .8, on the 12th it was a .9. So not too much less than what Elite did, but with bigger overall audiences.

Elite is partially to blame because they did not work hard to build up last night’s show. It seems like they expected a weak night and accepted their fate. They should have done more, in the last two weeks, to build up the hype.

Had they done so, I think it would have done somewhat better.

Thanks for the interesting figures, in terms of overall viewership it clearly didn't do so well, but the P18-49 demo figures seem to be at least above average for CBS in that timeslot. I don't think it was a matter of Lawler failing to get over with the audience; there were a lot of factors, foremost the gigantic July 19th weekend of Affliction/UFC, that conspired to overshadow this event. Hopefully the network will realize its not an indication that EXC can't draw, because in terms of fight quality, this show, and the June 14th Showtime card, were both great. They just need some time to establish identities for their premier fighters.
