5 Oz. Exclusive: Last-reigning IFL welterweight champion Jay Hieron officially a free agent
Jay Hieron, the final reigning welterweight champion of the International Fight League, received his formal release from the organization in recent weeks and is a full-fledged free agent.
FiveOuncesOfPain.com learned of this news Wednesday afternoon while speaking with his manager, Monte Cox.
According to Cox, Hieron is considering offers from Affliction, Strikeforce, the AFL, and EliteXC. Thus far, the UFC has not expressed an interest.
At one point it was thought that Hieron could be a prime asset in a reported acquisition of select assets from the IFL by the UFC’s parent company, Zuffa. However, no official announcement has been made yet by Zuffa or the IFL regarding an acquisition. Cox stated that at one point it appeared several contracts were going to be transferred and that for some inexplicable reason, the IFL went ahead and released all of its fighters.
Five Ounces of Pain has heard from multiple sources in recent days that there is existing doubt as to whether Zuffa’s deal with the IFL ever was completed.

hieron is an improving fighter and has looked good in recent fights
needs more competition but trains at xtreme couture and we have seen what happens to fighters that are training there they get much better

Same with Hordecki, who does he fight in Affliction if he signs? Atleast with Elite XC you give him to Shields as the first defense.

Shields fights 170 lbs. Horodecki is 155′er.

The UFC don’t really need Hieron. There Welterweight class is pretty good. Elite XC could use him though for a challenger to shields belt and some much needed depth. I would like to see him and Paul Daley vs Hieron to see who fights Shield for the EXC titlte.

Sam…just noticed I wasn’t clear. Who do Horodecki and Hieron fight in Affliction. Atleast if Hieron fights in Elite he’d have a fight with Shields to look forward to.

Jay Hieron doesn’t want any part of the Ufc. He has to get that horrible beatdown GSp administered on him out of his mind first.

WEC – the WEC Champ (Condit) vs the IFL champ (Hieron) for a UFC contract. It would be a good fight, and Condit needs some new competition
