UFC officially announces UFC 88 matchup between Nathan Marquardt and Martin Kampmann

August 7, 2008 by Sam Caplan

As expected, a middleweight matchup between Nathan Marquardt and Martin Kampmann has been officially added to the main televised portion of UFC 88, according to the UFC’s official web site.

Kampmann, who has an overall MMA record of 13-1, trains out of Xtreme Couture and comes from an outstanding Muay Thai background. However, his all-around game has really progressed and he’s now a threat to submit his opponents as well.

Marquardt lives in Colorado but prepares for his fights in Albuquerque, N.M. training under Greg Jackson. One of the most versatile fighters in the UFC’s middleweight division, Marquardt has a strong overall MMA record of 29-8-1 and is considered by many pundits to be a top-ten ranked fighter at 185 lbs.

UFC 88 will take place on Sept. 6 and will emanate from the Phillips Arena in Atlanta, Georgia. A light heavyweight bout between former UFC light heavyweight champion Chuck Liddell and season two heavyweight winner of “The Ultimate Fighter,” Rashad Evans.

Snorefest? Must be a UFC hater. Kampmann made me a fan after he put McFredries to sleep and Marquardt always puts up a good fight (cheating or not).

Don’t worry about him, Dan. This is the same guy who called Ortiz/Sobral a “co-main event for the ages.”

    He’s obviously retarded.

Classic striker/submission match up with two talented fighters. I’m looking forward to this one. If Marquardt has better control of where his elbows land, he’ll win.

I’m a mark for Kampman, but I don’t think he’s got the ground game to control Marquardt. Best hope is landing loads of shots as Marquardt goes for takedowns. Is McLovin already set for his next fight? If not, he gets the loser of this one.

Mclovin is a Welterweight, Kampman and Marquardt are Middleweights. Wrong weight class unless Dustin Hazlett moves up in weight.
