Matyushenko vs. Patterson: HDNet Fight of the Week (video)

August 15, 2008 by Matt Cava

This week’s Fight of the Week features the highly decorated collegiate All-American wrestler Vladimir Matyushenko (21-3) taking on jiu jitsu wizard Jamal Patterson (4-2). Matyushenko is a veteran fighter who had steamrolled his competition in the IFL so far and is looking to do the same to Patterson in this title defense. Patterson, however, has other plans for Matyushenko, hoping to exploit the Belarusian where he’s weakest: the striking game.

Matyushenko is set to appear at the next Affliction show against Antonio Rogerio Nogueira and this fight shows why he’s still one of the best light heavyweights in the entire world.  Jamal Patterson is one of the many fighters who has been lost in the shuffle of MMA, along with the status of the IFL. He’s extremely young in his MMA career but proves that he has more than enough ability to compete with even the toughest fighters in the game by putting Matyushenko in several bad positions throughout the fight. This fight has it all: striking, jiu jitsu, wrestling, and ground and pound. It’s not to be missed!

nice fight, but it seemed like it was more a matter of Jamal Patterson gassing out. Matyushenko didnt, so eventually he controlled the fight. Otherwise I think Jamal would have won.

Vlady is a beast! Too many people have forgotten about him and most newbs have no idea how much of a badass he is.

Looking forward to his fight against Nogueira.

is says that he is set to fight Antonio Rogerio Nogueira at the next affliction event. am I missing something? isn’t Antonio Rogerio Nogueira the ufc heavyweight champ and coach of the next TUF?

Well Greg Obviously u know nothing about MMA and should read up some more. There are two Antonio Nogueria’s that are brothers one is in affliction the other in UFC Now u know but the younger brother is a burger mister nothing like the champ I expect him to get spanked by the Dead IFL CHAMP
