Rashad doesn’t stand much of a chance. His striking is definetly inferior to Liddell’s and his leg kicks are telegraphed so it’d be hard to catch an experienced fighter with one of those. Rashad could go for the takedown but he isn’t going to be able to body lock Liddell and going for a single or double would be asking to be punched in the face. Rashad was lined up to take his first loss and get that belt back around Liddells waist. I can’t argue, Liddell was the champ before Jackson and stands the most potential and has the best streak to get another shot. After he lost to Jackson he accepted that he’d have to fight his way back up and now Jackson (after his fiasco) has to accept the same thing. Wandy and Rua have no where near the streaks and Machida and Thiago haven’t faced top 10 level fights. I’m glad they are fighting each other because it’ll probably be Machida who faces Liddell after Liddell takes the title from Forrest (but never count Forrest out)

  2. Mike says:

by streaks do you mean his loss to Keith Jardine and his one win? doesnt seem like much of a streak to me..

  3. neorules says:

Thats some streak there … I like Chuck, but we all know that he’s Dana’s
    poster child …

  4. Imbecile says:

Dana’s poster child or not, Chuck has as much claim to a title shot as anyone at LHW at this point. There isn’t a single fighter with as impressive a resume at 205, and almost all of them have losses tossed into their last several fights. Rashad is undefeated, and if Chuck beats him, he should be in line for a title shot as much as anyone. Same goes for Rashad if he beats Chuck. I tend to think when you are a proven champion who has a highly decorated resume of beating the best of the best, you road to get a shot to retain your title should be a little quicker than for an up and comer still proving themselves. Just because you lose a fight doesn’t mean you are tossed immediately back to the bottom of the pile as though you are totally unproven.

The only ones at LHW that don’t have any losses (other than Rashad) are Machida and Thiago Silva. The winner of their fight could make equal claim to a title shot as the the winner of Liddell/Evans, but neither of those two has yet faced a really top-level fighter. I also don’t blame the UFC for not wanting to allow Machida to fight for a title until he learns this is MMA and not a point-karate match.

  5. Guy Gaduois says:

Is Keith Jardine the light heavyweight version of Matt Serra? There’s parallels . . . but on point, Chuck wins against Rashad and it’s a strength of schedule issue, because Evans is undefeated. Critics may not like it, but it’s got similarities to the reality that Forrest beat Rua and that win carries weight. If Liddell beats Evans, that’s an important win in the rankings construct of LHW.
Smokes’ point on the cloudy waters with what happens ranking wise for the winner of Machida v. Silva makes for a real interesting traffic tie up – which makes me scratch my head with the moves from LHW to MW and rumors of such for Wanderlei, what happens with A. Silva moving around. There’s suddenly quite a traffic jam in LHW belt contention.

  6. Mike says:

I think anderson would own 205 as well

  7. Rip says:

I think Chuck needs one more win if he beats Rashad. Hopefully it’s Wanderlei again;)

  8. Smokes says:

I don’t think you guys understood that no other fighter deserves a shot before Chuck cept to say Lyoto and Thiago but both of them have not fought any of the top guys in LHW. Chuck at top makes way more sense and also leaves a lot of great fights open.

  9. Juan says:

Chuck Liddel getting a title shot after Rashad Evans is not right. Rashad
Evans although undefeated he has not beaten anybody in the top ten. Rashad is a guy that the UFC pumped up so he could be beaten by another fighter so he can get pumped up. The only serious fighter Rashad faced was Tito and Tito would have one had he not been grabbing on to the cage or if he had actually trained for the fight. There are many fighters in the UFC that can potentially end Chucks career at 205 and the UFC knows that. That’s why they are giving Chuck a title shot. There are many people that present serious match up problems for Liddlel like Lyoto Machida would more than likely beat Forest and Liddel but lets face it UFC doesn’t want that because that guy isn’t the most charismatic. Wanderlei Silva is a legitamate for Liddlel but although he is a great fighter needs to beat a top ten guy as well. Lets be honest with each other if Wanderlei would have jumped on Chuck when he got the knockdown it may have been a different fight. Quinton Jackson manhandled him once and the second fight was like a minute some into the first round. Mauricio Rua got smothered by Griffin. I believe he had never heard Griffins name and he didn’t take the fight seriously I dought that Griffin can beat him again at least that bad and Shogun is a gy who Rampage had very little for, Thiago Silva can work the submission ground and pound or that stand up, Rameau Thierry Sokoudjou May not be able to close his legs for the guard on the ground but he could probably knock out a horse with a good shot. Kieth Jardine beat LIddel and he is at the bottom of the tottem pole. Heck Houston Alexander presents a problem for Liddlell. Chucks last victory before Wanderlei was Tito Ortiz in December of 2006. Sorry but what have you done for me lately. That’s why Liddell getting a title shot is a a joke.

  10. king mah mah says:

Like it or not liddell is still entertaining to watch and he is probably the most popular fighter by far. That’s why he gets a quick shot at the title, plus this could be his last try. You gotta throw the old veteran a bone.

  11. Mike says:

I dont get why Jardine is treated like such shit, he beats liddell and gets $12,000 while liddell makes 500k. Pathetics to me, how can you live off that

  12. Batman says:

I hope liddell loses, so everyone can say he sucks. MMA fans aren’t loyal to their favorite fighters these days because the UFC only promotes their brand not their fighters. I see a bunch of band wagon fans on this site, they only care for the flavor of the month. I think Fedor is the best in the world pound for pound and he always has been. If liddell loses which he will everyone will say that he is over the hill.

  13. warcry says:

Batman, if you seriously think that Rashad has a chance with Chuck you’ve no clue about MMA. Is Chuck one-dimensional? For sure. That is one hell of a dimension though. Rashad can’t overcome his striking ability and he won’t be able to take him down. You might as well get Rashad a pillow because he’s going to sleep.

  14. Mike says:

    hes also an NCAA wrestler..

  15. Rick says:

Alrighty, ive listened, ive read and ive kept my mouth shut for a while……now its time to speak up. Lets say your the champ for the better part of about 3 years, you get complacent, you know your the best, you train harder than ever (you think)then you get knocked off………..Thats what happened to Chuck, Chuck is a outstanding MMA fighter, you say he’s one demensional – who cares, he wins fights ….more big fights than anyone ever……SOME SAY HE’S THE ufc’S POSTER CHILD….WHATEVER, they hype Lesner, Silva , Jackson, and even tried to HYPE sILVIA BUT HE JUST KEPT LOSING….There is serious competition at 205…Lachada, Thiago, Rua, Jardin…..The bottom line is regardless of anything, like it or not, Chuck has worked his way back up , if he beats Evans, he should get his shot, then you got the Machada – Thiago fight and the winner of that should get their shot…….There you have it , …..OH AND ..THERES NO POSTER CHILDREN IN MMA…….its all about the money crazies……you should know thAT.

  16. Juan says:

You don’t have to throw the old veteran anything. Liddell does’t deserve a title shot. It is disrespectful to the fighters that have been busting their backs for years to get were they are at. If the UFC keeps doing this they are going to lose a lot of fighters. Its been happening for a while it is only recently that they are begining to lose high profile fighters.

  17. king mah mah says:

If anyone ever says Liddell sucks, they are just kidding themselves. Even “if” he loses, he is still one of the best the sport has ever seen. Besides, why shouldn’t Rashad have a good chance at winning? He’s a lot younger and therefore probably hungrier. But don’t act like a jackass and say Liddell sucks “if” he happens to lose. That is just stupid.

  18. king mah mah says:

    @ juan

Hey you don’t think Liddell has busted his back for years? It’s disrespectful to him to totally count him out of the 205lb division. Give me a break.

  19. deangelo says:

LOL, Chuck is the biggest overrated BUMB of all time. He fought a bunch of nobody’s and one over the hill Tito Ortiz. Other than beating an old Randy Couture, what has this BUMB done!?!?!?!? Whenever he’s fought anyone of decent stand up skills, he got knocked the hell out. he has a GLASS JAW and all a fighter has to do is stand up with this bumb and fight with him. hit him with a decent shot, and like tonight, he goes lights out!!! if this dude was someone other than a white fighter, there is no way in hell he gets this much credit and promotion. like i said, he is a slow bumb, with a decent right hook and nothing else!!! hahahahaha. i made mucho dinero from Rashad tonight!!! laughing all da way to da bank baby!!!!

  20. mike says:

Isnt it about time you defend your head Liddell. You also need to lose that uppercut.

  21. pro says:

wow, im pretty sure u feel like a fuckin idiot after all that chatter. i knew rashad was gonna win but…i didnt expect for him to win the way he did….he completely stretched liddell viciously.i always said liddell was way too one dimensional. theres so many liddell dick riders around it makes me sick. dont get me wrong hes a great fighter no doubt about that or should i say was a great fighter. its time for everybody to recognize FEDOR as the best in the game PERIOD.

  22. pro says:

oh by the way…..im replying to smokes dumb ass comments…he doesnt know shit about fighting haha….if ur a fighter…wow good luck man…u need it. hows chuck doin??? is he ok?? hahha!!!! im just jokin man…dont take it too seriously….its just funny.
