Tito Ortiz claims Juanito Ibarra ripped off Rampage

September 6, 2008 by Dave Carpinello

In an Interview with PDG, Tito Ortiz chronicled one of Quinton “Rampage” Jackson’s reasons behind the firing of former trainer Juanito Ibarra.

“Let me explain this to you because it really pisses me off that Ibarra has done what he has done, he is a thief,” said Ortiz. “I have been running training camps for seven years up in Big Bear California and the most that my camp has cost a fighter to attend is $35,000. Ibarra was charging Jackson $65,000 to go to Big Bear. I don’t understand that! He was being very disrespectful and taking advantage of Rampage. Including travel, training partners, food and lodging, the most ever was $35,000, maybe if you flew in more trainers… 40K. Where did that extra money go that Ibarra was charging? Rampage is really pissed and he feels betrayed that he was taken advantage of and I couldn’t agree more with him. I don’t care if Juanito reads this or hears about it anywhere, he already knows that he is blackballed. I don’t care who you are; fighters work very hard for the money they earn and I feel slighted for even knowing Juanito.”

White Chocolate Management (who also represents Jackson) had filed a $10 million lawsuit against Ibarra and Jackson for alleged breach of contract by the two. Jackson has now all but been removed from the lawsuit since since firing Ibarra.

Jackson also recently signed a three-year agreement to train out of the Wolfslair Academy that is based out of the United Kingdom and is the home of both Michael Bisping and Paul Kelly.

I hope things start getting better for rampage. This is one of a few recent good signs for the ex champ.

Damn he has a massive head.

It never ceases to amaze me. The sheer size of his skull, and lack of substance within.

Oh yeah and Rampage.. tough break. He’ll bounce back from it though.

How is Rampage so stupid that he would think it costs 65k?Common sense Rampage!

    Hey dongbar,

it sucks when a coach does something like that. fighters put so much trust and faith into them its a black eye for them today

If this is true, then it’s a pretty rotten deal. Ibarra has been pretty quiet since he was fired, so I leads me to believe that it may be true. Hope he responds to these allegations and tells his side of the story.

The part I don’t get is- why does douchebag Ortiz feel the need to get involved?

  9. darkmetal on September 6th, 2008 5:36 pm

    Hmm, this gets me wondering….
For a change I find myself wanting to compliment Tito Ortiz for coming out about this. Generally, it is all about Tito, but in this case I think he is simply speaking out about what caused the state that Rampage was in when he went berzerk; Namely, it was very possible that someone (Tito?) told him that what he was being charged by Ibarra was totally out of line.

I am sure that Rampage probably didn’t shop around for training, and simply took Ibarra’s word that he was getting his money’s worth. After losing, he knew this was not the case at all.

It makes me think that Rampage’s biggest mistake was thinking Ibarra was his friend, when he was simply trying to rip him off.

oh lordy jesus, Ibarra is such a man of God, how could you all question him?

This smells an awful lot like a weak attempt by Tito at gettin pub for team punishment.

Juanito ripping Rampage off??? I think we’ve all seen that Rampage doesn’t make real good decisions. This is just a another one. Its not getting ripped off if you agree to the terms of a deal.

Couple of questions. First, who would listen to Tito for business advice or career advice? If Rampage is, it’s time for another visit from the mental health professionals. Second, is it really a smart move to get involved in a lawsuit over 25-30K? Hell, no. Rampage’s first two monthly bills from his attorneys will exceed that. Don’t take my word for it, just ask Randy Couture. Litigating works for the lawyers, but not for the fighter. Like a street fight, going to court is your last resort, not the first or second or even third option.

  13. bada55 on September 7th, 2008 2:25 pm

tito charging 35K thats fucking crazy the fighters do not make enough as it is and to charge that much- basicly the fighter who gets paid 50K spends it all on training i THOUGH THEY ALL HELP EACH OTHER OUY tITO u GREEDY MOTHER F*CKER

  14. Luther on September 8th, 2008 10:00 am

So much Tito hate…. Jesus. I am not a fan but you guys are pathetic for constantly mentioning his head size and business etiquette. How many of you own a business?

  15. Smokes on September 8th, 2008 12:10 pm

Whoa bada55 I realize Tito is not somebody anyone likes but I think you are getting that wrong. Tito is trying to give you an idea of what the training is on the high end. Your talking about champion calliber fighters not up and comers who are making way less.

  16. mmablaster on September 8th, 2008 1:42 pm

Looks like Juanito isn’t the good guy many thought he was.

  17. Powers on September 9th, 2008 1:53 am

That makes a LOT more sense. Imagine finding out your mentor was conning you. That would shake your whole word up.
