Report: Tamdan McCrory vs. Dustin Hazelett set for UFC 91

Sherdog is reporting that Tamdan McCrory and Dustin Hazelett have verbally agreed to fight one another at UFC 91, a card set to be headlined by Randy Couture vs. Brock Lesnar for the UFC heavyweight title.

The fighters are two of the UFC’s more highly regarded prospects at 170 lbs. and a win for either fighter will help them climb the ladder in the stacked welterweight division.

“He’s a good jiu-jitsu guy with a lot of experience,” McCrory said about the fight. “He’s been in the UFC a little longer than I have, but he’s just another tough opponent.”

McCrory’s last fight came against Luke Cummo at UFC 87 where he recorded a unanimous decision victory for the first time in his career. Cummo was game but was outmuscled and outsized by the lanky McCrory throughout the fight.

Hazelett is coming off a possible Submission of the Year candidate fight in which he submitted Josh Burkman via armbar at the TUF 7 Finale back in June. He is now 4-2 in the UFC with his only losses coming against Josh Koscheck at UFC 82 and Tony DeSouza in his first fight in the UFC.

UFC 91 also features a lightweight clash between Joe Stevenson and Kenny Florian, a heavyweight fight between Gabriel Gonzaga and Josh Hendricks, and a lightweight bout between Jeremy Stephens and Rafael dos Anjos. Also rumored for the card is a possible light heavyweight matchup featuring Quinton “Rampage” Jackson taking on Wanderlei Silva for the third time in their careers.

This is going to be an instant classic…I really think both of these guys have a lot of upside and they match up very, very well. I think Hazelett takes this via submission.

That should be a solid fight between to up and coming welterweights. I am looking forward to it. Since I am from NY I am going for the homer here, and saying “The Barn Cat” take “McLovin” by unanimous decision.

This is the fight I always suggest when people ask whats next for either guy. So I’m happy to see its finally happening. I think McLovin is a little better all the way around. I’ll him by some crazy sub.

McLovin makes me want to learn Jiu-jitsu. He is by far my favorite fighter to watch on the ground. The submission against Burkman was incredible.
