Travis Wiuff to fight Roger Gracie at Sengoku 5

Former UFC and PRIDE veteran and YAMMA Pit Fighting heavyweight champion Travis Wiuff has been announced by World Victory Road as the opponent for undefeated heavyweight sensation Roger Gracie at Sengoku 5 on Sept. 28.

Wiuff is 53-11, according to Sherdog’s fight finder, and is currently on a 10-fight winning streak. He last fought at Sengoku 3 in June, where he knocked out Kazuyuki Fujita at 1:24 of round 1. Prior to that Wiuff won YAMMA’s eight-man, single-night heavyweight tournament on April 11 by recording wins over Marcelo Donald Pereira, Chris Tuchscherer, and former UFC heavyweight champion Ricco Rodriguez.

Gracie, one of the best pure heavyweight grapplers on the competitive circuit, is 2-0 in his brief MMA career. He debuted in 2006 with a first round submission of Ron Waterman during BodogFIGHT’s “USA vs. Russia” event. Gracie then returned to action this past May during Sengoku 2, where he submitted Yuki Kondo with a rear naked choke at 2:40 of round 1.

Sengoku 5 will emanate from Yoyogi National Gymnasium in Tokyo, Japan and in addition to Wiuff vs. Gracie, the show will feature the first round of the Sengoku middleweight Grand Prix. First round matchups include Kazuhiro Nakamura vs. Paul Cahoon, Jorge Santiago vs. Logan Clark, Yuki Kondo vs. Yuki Sasaki, and Evangelista “Cyborg” Santos vs. Siyar Bahadurzada.

Non-tournament fights for the card also include Takashi Sugiura vs. Xande Ribeiro (light heavyweight), Kiuma kunioku vs. A Sol Kwon (lightweight), and former IFL lightweight champion Ryan Schultz vs. Jorge Masvidal (lightweight).

Travis Wiuff is tuff as hell. I rolled with him a couple of years back @ team Elite in Salt Lake City he is a stud and should win easily. It’s Gracie who these days. Since Royce was caught using roids.

Travis will be allright as long as he keeps the fight standing. I wouldn’t advise any ground and pound though cause he might get subbed.

If Gracie win’s this I will be very impressed, for a guy in his 3rd pro MMA fight this is no easy task.

I may be beating a dead horse here – but if Roger takes this to the ground he should stop Travis easily – -if not he could certainly grind out a decision, but I definitely would not count Travis out here – – I mean Kevin Burns submitted Roan Carniero – not to say this is the same fight……….

I would love to see Travis Wiuff in the big show because he is an animal at heavyweight. He could easily take a majority of what the UFC would have to throw at him.

Extremely looking forward to this fight!
