Travis Wiuff to fight Roger Gracie at Sengoku 5

Former UFC and PRIDE veteran and YAMMA Pit Fighting heavyweight champion Travis Wiuff has been announced by World Victory Road as the opponent for undefeated heavyweight sensation Roger Gracie at Sengoku 5 on Sept. 28.

Wiuff is 53-11, according to Sherdog’s fight finder, and is currently on a 10-fight winning streak. He last fought at Sengoku 3 in June, where he knocked out Kazuyuki Fujita at 1:24 of round 1. Prior to that Wiuff won YAMMA’s eight-man, single-night heavyweight tournament on April 11 by recording wins over Marcelo Donald Pereira, Chris Tuchscherer, and former UFC heavyweight champion Ricco Rodriguez.

Gracie, one of the best pure heavyweight grapplers on the competitive circuit, is 2-0 in his brief MMA career. He debuted in 2006 with a first round submission of Ron Waterman during BodogFIGHT’s “USA vs. Russia” event. Gracie then returned to action this past May during Sengoku 2, where he submitted Yuki Kondo with a rear naked choke at 2:40 of round 1.

Sengoku 5 will emanate from Yoyogi National Gymnasium in Tokyo, Japan and in addition to Wiuff vs. Gracie, the show will feature the first round of the Sengoku middleweight Grand Prix. First round matchups include Kazuhiro Nakamura vs. Paul Cahoon, Jorge Santiago vs. Logan Clark, Yuki Kondo vs. Yuki Sasaki, and Evangelista “Cyborg” Santos vs. Siyar Bahadurzada.

Non-tournament fights for the card also include Takashi Sugiura vs. Xande Ribeiro (light heavyweight), Kiuma kunioku vs. A Sol Kwon (lightweight), and former IFL lightweight champion Ryan Schultz vs. Jorge Masvidal (lightweight).
