Report: Melvin Guillard Arrested
Sherdog is reporting that Melvin Guillard, who was pulled off the UFC 90 card last week, has been arrested due to a violation of his probation relating to a 2007 drug charge.
According to the report Guillard is currently in custody at the Harris County Jail in Houston, Texas. He is set to be released to a drug treatment facility as soon as space becomes available. This is part of his amended probation.
Guillard was set to face off against lightweight competitor Spencer Fisher at UFC 90. Instead Fisher will fight Shannon Gugerty. Guillard was originally arrested in August of 2007 for possession of less than a gram of a controlled substance and was under a two year probationary period beginning in October of 2007.
This is not Guillard’s first run in with this kind of thing as he tested positive for cocaine following a loss to Joe Stevenson at UFC Fight Night 9 in April 2007 and was suspended for eight months by the Nevada State Athletic Commission. Guillard admitted to using cocaine just six days prior to the fight and believed it would be out of his system by the time the fight and subsequent drug test rolled around.
Details of the probation violation were not available at the time of the report.

I hope this earns him a release from the UFC.

It may explain his poor judgement and getting caught in submissions so often – an altered state of mind.
Joking aside, what an idiot…

Melvin has so much but but he has no smarts in any aspect of life, he does not realize he needs to work bjj in the cage and he doesnt realize he has to obey the law outside of the cage, this guy is and idiot and i better never see him in the ufc again, i think he should go to elite xc and fight crazy horse two druggies and jail birds, sounds like the kinda match xc likes these days.

This just shows you that Melvin is not a good guy that has made ONE mistake, he is a stupid human being that is simply doing what stupid people do, make us laugh at them! He is a talent that will get wasted, but the funny thing is he is still so young! He should go live w monks and practice jiu-jitsu for 2 yrs then come back and kill everyone

Whoops.
I guess Melvin wasn’t blessed with KO power AND brains. I’d be surprised to see him back in the UFC at this point.

melvin has the tools to be a champion..
he’s just athletic, bottom line..
great speed and power, if he would just work more on bjj then he’d ascend rapidly..
but, all of these legal setbacks are what are ruining him..
it really sucks..
i’m not a melvin hater..
i don’t mind the guy..
he’s got great talent..
he just needs to stay out of trouble..
i think melvin and crazy horse should meet for coffee some time..

I’d like to point out that at this time we don’t really know what his probation violation is. Probation is kind of lame and lots of things that are legal or only ticketable petty crimes are probation violations. One really common one is alcohol, people with drug convictions are sometimes told they can’t drink as a condition of probation. Some traffic offenses can violate probation. Leaving the state can violate probation. And a bunch of other stuff that really isn’t all that awful.
So until we know more, I think we should hold back on the judgement a little. Sure, it’s idiotic to violate the conditions of your probation EVER, but its quite possible that his violation was something totally innocuous or even accidental.

Yeah I bet the same people weren’t up here dogging Leben for violating his parole when he did the same thing and ended up in jail…..
I agree with HexRei wait until we find our what he actually did to violate his parole. It could be something as simple leaving the state to go train for the fight…..

Look at how many chances Leben has had in the UFC. From losing on season 1 and getting asked to come back as a replacement to Quarry, pissing on Thacker’s bed on national TV, going apesh;t thru out the house breaking everything in site. A DUI which led to a violation of parole which led to the canceling of a Main Event for UFC 85 which had to be moved to a later date.
I would like to see the real reason why Gulliard violated parole before I passed judgment…..

He did enough to get arrested, therefore he is an idiot……
Pass that judgement……

If I recall correctly Leben didn’t have a DUI that violated his probation. He violated the probation by going to Hawaii and leaving the state.

he who is without sin cast the first. hes only 25, plus he didnt get into fighting because he was winning citizenship awards. hes a monster in the ring. the only reason anyone has to be mad is how he has disapointed us because we were looking forward to seeing him fight the king. but then again if your a fan of fisher maybe you should be thanking him because melvin was going to knock him out hard, beleive it

See, I think that’s your problem right there- you’ve been spending too much time with your clue loser, and you’ve lost all your clues, which would explain why you are so clueless now. This is the exact reason I haven’t gotten a clue loser yet.

Ah, this might be the other big barrier to our communication. See, I have a whole brain. But thanks for the information, this does explain a lot and now I feel a bit bad for being so gruff with you earlier.
