I am a fan of both. I think this bout will be a highly entertaining affair. My money is on Mac Danzig tomorrow. I believe he is the more complete fighter and will win via submission in rd3. A knockout via flying knee could also be in store for Clay.

I like both fighters, and it is to be expected that it will be entertaining fight. However I am going with an upset.

While Guida has heart and is exciting Danzig is a far more cerebral fighter.
Guida will get sloppy trying to finish the fight so it doesnt go to another decision. Danzigs boxing is much better than Guida and im sure the x-couture camp has a great fight plan for him. It doesnt hurt that Mac has Tyson Griffin to train with either.

Danzig’s best shot in this fight is a submission..
and last time i checked, it’s no easy feat to sub Guida..
that guy will endure just about anything to win..
the only reason Huerta’s lucky ass got him in an RNC is because Guida was rocked..

Danzig is a great fighter..
so good, that i’m suprised it took TUF to get him into the UFC..

but, i see Guida controlling the ground game, and staying out of submissions..

the way i see it, Mac’s only shot is a triangle..
and i just don’t see it happening..

My recollection is that the Carpenter was caught with a flying knee of Huerta that created the RNC. Before that, he was dominating Huerta. Guida will win this fight with Danzig, who is a mouthy punk who needs to get taken down a notch. He is talented but needs to keep his mouth shut (referring to out-of-line comments about Rampage).

The biggest bulls eye on Clay is when he goes to move his hair out’ve his eyes he’s a open target. I watched Huerta look for that opening again and again. I hope Clay is up for it, I’d like to see a fighter from IL. score big!

my first impression when this fight was announced, was that it was a big leap up for mac… but i agree with your prediction. i think danzig’s technique will counteract guida’s pace, and he’ll get sloppy. can’t say i wanna see either guy lose, but at least it’ll be an entertaining fight.

i wonder if they’ll finally start promoting ufc89 tomorrow night. seems like they’re skipping right over it to promote the silva/cote ppv. even during the TUF1 marathon, i dont think they even mentioned it… which was surprising, since leben was such a centerpiece of that season.

I agree with pretty much all your points, Adam. However, for a long time I have thought about the thinking process of Guida. The guy has the drive to be a champion should he learn from his mistakes. He was owning Huerta before his own rash behavior led to his being caught in a rear naked choke.
Certainly, unless he is obtuse, and I don’t think he is, there will surely be a “breaking point” where Guida matures as a fighter and leaps to the next level.
Danzig is great, I admit. But Guida might just surprise us in this fight. He simply has to train to weaknesses, as you mentoned, his standup and finishing skills. Has he worked on them? We will surely find out….
