Mustafa Al-Turk signs four-fight deal with UFC; could face Cain Velasquez in December

Published reports indicate that current Cage Rage British heavyweight champion Mustafa Al-Turk has signed a four-fight deal with the UFC. Al-Turk is 6-3 overall with all six of his victories coming inside of the British Cage Rage promotion. Al-Turk is riding a two fight win streak and holds a victory over former UFC and PRIDE veteran Mark Kerr as well as PRIDE veteran Henry Miller.

Al-Turk will be vacating his Cage Rage British heavyweight title to fight in the UFC and early speculation points to a debut against American Kickboxing Academy phenom Cain Velasquez at UFC 92 on December 27 in Las Vegas.

Velasquez is undefeated in MMA and has dominated his competition so far with none of his four victories getting out of the first round. Velasquez’s most recent victory came over Jake O’Brien at UFC Fight Night 14 via TKO in the first frame.

UFC 92 is set to feature a heavyweight matchup between this season’s TUF coaches, Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira and Frank Mir, for the interim heavyweight title. The winner of that fight will face off against the winner of the Randy Couture vs. Brock Lesnar matchup at UFC 91 to be the undisputed heavyweight champion. Other rumored bouts include Forrest Griffin defending his light heavyweight crown against Rashad Evans and TUF 8 castmember C.B. Dollaway taking on Jorge Rivera.

the UFC must have some longterm goal for the heavyweight division, and i’m liking it. they are bringing in a lot of new heavyweights recently. I wasn’t all too fond of heavyweight fights, as of recently, but with couture returning, lesnar becoming a beast, and all these new fighters, i feel as though the division may be reborn.

I saw this guy fight in Cage Rage he seems like a good wrestler with good power but the fight i saw was against Mark Kerr so take that for what it’s worth.

UFC is finally starting to add some new faces to its HW division. I’ve never seen this guys fight, so I’m not going to comment if he is any good or not, but I really like that at least they are bringing in some new faces and giving them a shot, even though they wouldn’t be doing him any favors putting him in with Cain.

    Wain v Carwin at 89
dos Santos v Werdum at 90
    Hendricks v Gonzaga at 91

I am surprised that they are bringing these guys in and putting them against top guys, and not letting them get their feet wet against guys like McCully, Sanchez, Hardonki, Wellish or even Mark Coleman that UFC has under contract.
