After defeating Ashe Bowman in a non-title fight this past weekend, Strikeforce lightweight champion Josh Thomson made it very clear who he wants to fight next.

“I am really looking forward to possibly fighting Joachim Hansen,” said Thomson.

Thomson went on to say that his next fight will definitely take place in 2008.

“November 21st is my next fight. I do know that I will be fighting at the HP Pavilion. I believe it will be a title defense.”

Once again, Thomson made it clear who he wants the title defense to be against.

“We are hoping for Joachim Hansen.”

A fight between Thomson and Hansen would certainly be an excellent match-up. Hansen is coming off a very impressive showing in the recent Dream lightweight tournament that included a win over Shinya Aoki and a loss to Eddie Alvarez in a potential fight of the year candidate. On the other hand, Thomson is on an eight fight winning streak dating back to March 2006.

It is a pivotal move for Strikeforce and EliteXC to make these fights happen between Thomson vs Hansen and Diaz vs Alveraz if they want to take their organizations to the next level.

The continuation of quality matchups between game opponents remains to be seen. I won’t believe it until the two fighters finally square up in the cage.

  2. Patrick says:

    Eddie will destroy Nick brutally.

Hansen vs. Josh will be the “Punk”’s first real test after Gilbert (who was having a pretty off day against him). I’d still bet on Hansen putting the hurt on Josh though.

  3. Mike D. says:

Hellboy would put a hurtin on The Punk for sure. Hansen is at the top of his game right now, would love to see it happen even though I’m pretty sure Hansen said he would never fight in front of US fans

  4. mike d says:

This may be an interesting fight, however Joachim has the advantage. Thomson simply has not faced the same level of competition yet. However his size may pose problems for Hansen.

Basically the next fight that Joachim is training for is for Alverez. So i do not think he will consider the fight with Josh seriously.

  5. Rich S. says:

    holy crap..
talk about an absolutely amazing fight..
i would kill for both Thomson/Hansen AND Diaz/Alvarez..
    these fights HAVE to happen..

  6. Robert says:

Miked Thomson has not faced quality competition Gilbert Melendez,Yves Edwards,Bang Ludwig,Clay Guida,Hermes Franca,Razor Rob McCullough, and Kid Yamamoto, and Hansen said he would’nt fight for the UFC.He has already fought in front of US fans for Pride.
