CBS & EliteXC Saturday Night Fights Weigh-in Results: World’s Most Dangerous Weigh-ins
Sunrise, Florida – EliteXC completed its weigh-ins Friday afternoon in anticipation of tomorrow’s third installment of CBS’ “Saturday Night Fights.”
The events that transpired inside of the Bank Atlantic Center proved to make the normally mundane practice the most eventful MMA weigh-ins in recent memory.
The show’s main eventers, Kimbo Slice and Ken Shamrock, apparently couldn’t wait until tomorrow to scrap. After both fighters had weighed in, Slice turned his back just prior to the pre-fight staredown. Whether he turned his back on Shamrock intentionally is uncertain, but what is certain is that Shamrock clearly took offense to the gesture.
With Slice’s back turned to him, Shamrock verbally admonished him for turning his back and then proceeded to give Slice a hard shove while his back was still turned. Slice turned around but dozens of representatives intervened to separate the two combatants from doing any serious physical harm to one another.
Both fighters were ushered away from each other but verbal complaints were still lodged on-stage by representatives from both camps. Slice’s trusted friend and manager, “Icey” Mike Ember, was visibly upset and appeared to be waging some sort of complaint to EliteXC Head of Fighter Operations Jeremy Lappen in regards to Shamrock’s conduct.
Shamrock also surprisingly weighed in at 206 and half pounds. The heavyweight limit for tomorrow’s main event is 265 pounds. It was not immediately obvious why Shamrock came so close to weighing in at the light heavyweight limit of 205 pounds.
The Slice/Shamrock altercation was far from the only noteworthy incident to take place. Gina Carano, who is slated to fight Kelly Kobold in a three-round female fight to be contested at the 140 lbs. weight limit, failed to make weight yet again. Despite looking more fit than usual, Carano still initially tipped the scales at 142 and 3/4 pounds.
Florida regulations allow fighters involved in non-title fights to weigh one pound over their contractED weight, meaning that Carano was 1 and 3/4 pounds over. Instead of trying to cut the excess weight, a visibly stressed Carano elected to remove all garments and re-weigh in in the nude.
Behind the limited privacy of only a few towels, flash bulbs and video recorders were in full effect while the highly-recognizable female fighter weighed in a second time. However, Carano still weighed in at 142.5 pounds. An adjustment of some kind was made and Carano weighed in a third successive time, finally reaching the mandated weigh limit of 141 pounds much to the delight of the crowd.
It was unclear from this reporter’s vantage point exactly what variable was changed between the second and third attempt that would allow Carano to weigh-in at a difference of one and a half pounds.
EliteXC welterweight champion Jake Shields and Paul Daley joined Slice and Shamrock as two fighters anxious to get down to business. After completing their weigh-ins, Daley began to verbally assail Shields. Unwilling to back down, Shields stood his ground and indulged Daley in the pre-fight smack talk. The verbage and posturing between the two escalated and officials had to separate the two fighters and instruct them to head backstage.
It appeared that the dust up might have continued as the backstage curtains were visibly shaking after both had left the public viewing area.
Full weigh-in results for tomorrow’s fights are as follows:
- Heavyweight: Kevin “Kimbo Slice” Ferguson (234.5 pounds) vs. Ken Shamrock (206.5 pounds)

Shamrock must have thought he was back at light heavyweight.

As for why Shammy weighs so little…… Look at him. ALL of his muscle mass is gone. He’s just a very tiny heavyweight right now who makes Brandon Vera look like Gan McGee.

Ken @ 206?
ahhhh man..
now i’m worried for his health.. he’s going to get destroyed..
Ken needs to pull a “Collossus” and just run at Kimbo until he gets him down.. God knows Ken could do more to Kimbo on the ground than Thompson ever could’ve..
Ken said in a recent interview, that the only way he can lose this fight is if he stands there and lets Kimbo punch him.. and he said there’s no way he’ll do that..
correct me if i’m wrong.. but that’s EXACTLY what he did in the Franklin fight.. the Saku fight.. the Buzz fight.. need i go on?
every one of those fights involved punches going right through any kind of block Ken had..
and after those unanswered punches.. Ken just kind of layed down.. in each of those fights..
It’s not that i want Kimbo to lose.. [personally, i like the guy.. call me what you will]
i just don’t want Ken to lose..

Rich S. Ken did’nt kinda just lay down he was completely lifeless after getting hit even by Sakuraba who is not a heavy puncher by any stretch.Oh and by the way Buzz Berry just retired after his last fight the same Buzz Berry who knocked around Shamrock back in March.

I thought shammy looked rocked by saku but he bounced back up pretty quick when he realized they weren’t going to let it continue. I think he fell into the ropes hoping for a restart to give him time to recover and then got pissed when it didn’t work.

ya hex.. either that or maybe he was going to try to roll or something.. either way.. it was a dumb idea..
i also think it’s kind of sad that someone who just knocked Ken out has retired, but Ken has yet too.. then again, Buzz retired because of injuries and such..
i didn’t give Ken much of a chance in the Tito fights, or any other fights at LHW.. but when he returned to HW against Buzz, i genuinely believed that he was back and better than ever.. he was soooo pumped before that fight.. and then once the fight started, all those years of submissions and wrestling went away as he stood and striked with a superior striker for the better part of round 1, and payed for it.. it’s hard to believe he won’t do the same with Kimbo..
i was impressed, however, with the explosiveness of ken’s takedown attempts in the Buzz fight [i believe there were only 2].. but it’s like once they were defended, he quit, gave up, broke, whatever you want to call it.. he stood in front of Buzz, and let him punch him.. the one thing he said he won’t do against Kimbo.. i don’t know what’s supposed to make me believe him..
I want Ken to win.. not because i hate Kimbo, i don’t.. but because i’ve always been a fan of Ken, and i really hate seeing him hurt, or KO’d..
