EliteEX failed because they lost 55 million dollars in under two years, Pride failed because they lost their Japanese tv contract due to the Yakuza scandal and were no longer profitable, Bodogfight failed because they lost 38 million dollars, The IFL failed because they lost 30 million dollars, WFA (also CEO’d by Jeremy Lappen) failed due to severe financial problems and Affliction MMA is currently in trouble due to financial issues of their own making. The UFC didn’t defeat any of them they all went out of business due to their hemorrhaging of millions of dollars in very short spans of time. There was some good things from all of those companies but that doesn’t mean any of those were actually good companies. This isn’t about the UFC it’s about companies that failed due to their own sub-par performance, if any of them had found a way to make money at MMA then they would still be around offering a real alternative and competition for the UFC. Competition is fine but, so far only the UFC and Strikeforce have found ways to provide the fans with a good product and actually make enough money to survive from MMA though.

The big difference for ProElite is that they had opportunities the other companies could only wish for(they even accomplished things the UFC hasn’t been able to) and they still found a way to burn through millions and millions of investors dollars and go out of business. The UFC didn’t defeat EliteXC, EliteXC defeated EliteXC. I grieve for people who lost their job and investors who lost their investment and the women’s fighters who are short on other opportunities and the small organizations like King of the Cage, Cage Rage and Icon sports that ProElite is dragging down with them but I don’t grieve for the death of a company that lost all it’s investors money, made a lot of really bad decisions and brought scandal to the sport I love.

So your upset that EliteXC is gone because you hate Dana White? A lot of people are happy that EliteXC is gone because it was a piss poor company that scared investors off from the whole sport with their horrible losses, suffered from scandal after scandal after scandal, was created basically as what Gary Shaw thought MMA should be, pretty much anything Jared Shaw ever said or did that involved MMA, got casual fans to associate the sport with Kimbo Slice and dancing girls, now has mainstream media calling the whole sport fake, knock out bonuses and Shaw’s bias against ground fighting, making silly weight classes to fit the weight that people they want to push can make, their involvement with the Dynamite USA show, their interference with Frank Shamrock and Strikeforce that caused Strikeforce to sue them, they bought out several sucessful small local organizations and basically killed them through ineptness, Cage Rage going from the largest MMA organization in Great Britain to cancelling shows to now being dragged down into the abyss with ProElite’s bloated corpse, lost 55 million of other people’s dollars in two years time, the whole KJ Noons debacle, Nick DIaz and the pot paperwork debacle in California, the first CBS show looking like cheap pro wrestling in it’s presentation, booking Ken Shamrock to fight Kimbo, botching Ken Shamrock fighting Kimbo……. do I need to go on? It has nothing at all to do with the UFC it has to do with the crap EliteXC pulled and the fact that their greed and ineptness let the whole sport down. Hopefully a better organization will rise up and take their place as the number two organization because MMA fans deserve better than EliteXC.

You say it’s ok to hate the Shaw’s and Lappen but not to hate EliteXC? How? They are the people who created and ran EliteXC, it was Gary Shaw’s vision of MMA run the way Gary Shaw designed it to run. I mean good grief your blaming Dana White and the UFC for what people think but saying you don’t understand why people hate EliteXC for the damage it has done to itself and the sport? It’s sad to see fighters lose contracts and fans lose shows but it’s real easy to understand why people aren’t sad to see that piss poor organization finally finish killing itself off. There was no reason to be attached to EliteXC they have been obviously dying for almost as long as they have been around, what is sad about this is all the collateral damage they caused to the sport as they bungled along for two years. People should be angry at EliteXC for letting fighters and fans and the whole damn sport down, if they weren’t so darn inept this wouldn’t of happened.

This isn’t a disaster it’s just another poor business performer on the pile of failed MMA org screw ups, they are constantly coming and going and the sport still survives and grows. In the long run getting the chaff out of the way may open up for a decent organization that actually has the ability to last longer than two years.

I am personally hoping WEC will bring female fights to their show. One thing the EXC-CBS deal did was demonstrate that female fighters can draw viewers, and with WEC dropping their MW and LHW divisions and EXC folding, the time is ripe. WEC GIVE US FEMALE FIGHTS!
