Kim Couture added to Strikeforce’s Nov. 21 “Destruction” event

November 3, 2008 by Sam Caplan

Kim Couture, the wife of UFC heavyweight champion Randy Couture, has been added to Strikeforce’s upcoming “Destruction” event on Friday, Nov. 21 at the HP Pavilion in San Jose, Calif.

Facing Lina Kvokov in a 130 pound bout, Couture will be looking to even her record to 1-1 after losing her professional mixed martial arts debut to Kaitlin Rose during Banner Promotions’ “Night of Combat” on June 20 in Las Vegas at the Thomas & Mack Center.

After sustaining a broken jaw during the bout’s initial exchange, Couture endured and went the distance. However, the gutsy performance was not enough to prevent her from losing to Rose via unanimous decision.

“Losing that fight was the best thing that ever happened to me,” Couture is quoted as saying in a press release issued by Strikeforce. “It’s completely changed me as a fighter. I’ve started doing things a lot different. It made me realize that I have to be the aggressor or I’m going to get hurt.”

In addition to training with her husband and other top trainers at Xtreme Couture in Las Vegas, Couture is also now working with K-1 standout Ray Sefo, boxing coach Gil Martinez, and jiu-jitsu instructor Robert Drysdale.

Kvokov, a 33-year old native of Portland, Oregon, is also 0-1 having lost her pro debut on April 3 after submitting to a first round armbar against Tamara Parks.

“I’m an A-type personality so of course I’m aggressive,” Kvokov is quoted as saying in the promotion’s press release. “I don’t know Kim Couture, but I’ve heard a lot of great things and have a lot of respect for her so I’m really looking forward to going in there and banging it out with her.”

Strikeforce “Destruction” will air live on HDNet and in addition to the Couture vs. Kvokov bout will also feature Josh Thomson defending the Strikeforce lightweight title vs. Yves Edwards, Bobby Southworth defending the Strikeforce light heavyweight title vs. Renato “Babalu” Sobral, and Joe Riggs vs. Luke Stewart in welterweight action.

Great just what I’ve been waiting for Kim Couture back in action.Maybe she’ll end up with another busted jaw.I want to see Cris Cyborg and Gina Carano fighting for Strikeforce or some of the other girls who know how to fight, not Randy’s wife who wants to be in the spotlight.

Five months doesn’t seem like enough time to recover from a broken jaw.
