November 4, 2008 by Sam Caplan

FiveOuncesOfPain.com has learned that the UFC has signed Martin Kampmann to a new four-fight contract.

The news was confirmed with Kampmann’s agent, Ken Pavia.

Kampmann is 13-2 in his professional mixed martial arts career and is 4-1 lifetime inside of the Octagon. His most recent fight was a first round TKO loss to Nathan Marquardt at UFC 88 in September but prior to that he was 4-0 with victories over Crafton Wallace, Thales Leites, Drew McFedries, and Jorge Rivera.

A standout kickboxer prior to crossing over into MMA, Kampmann has become a respected grappler and had won nine consecutive fights prior to the loss to Marquardt.

According to Pavia, Kampmann is planning to drop to welterweight for his next bout and has also signed a sponsorship agreement with Hitman Fight Gear.

Kampmann will be sick at WW. He had a tough time at MW getting tossed around by some of the bigger guys (ie. Marquardt, Mcfedries before he submitted him.) At WW Kampmann should have KO power and will be the bigger guy for a change. I am excited to see him at WW.

Kampmann @ 170 will be great. Some very interesting fights for him at that weight.

Agree with the post above, Kampmann will be an animal at WW, a stacked weight class just got another contender.

I don’t think he’ll be a contender at welterweight, the top 170 pounders are great wrestlers, aside from Alves and I don’t think any of then will have a problem putting him on his back and pounding out a referee stoppage or UD, this is another example of a guy getting beat by a better fighter and thinking that changing weight classes is his answer same thing after Swick got beat up by Okami weight class aside they just got beat by better fighters.Kampmann won’t be a contender at 170 any time soon.

When will people listen and understand that Martin is NOT a former kickboxer but a former Muaythai fighter?! :/

“mingowarr” If Tito comes back to the UFC Dana won’t have anything to do with it Lorenzo Fertitta will.He already made him an offer because he knows it’s good for business to have him back and if Tito decides not to go back he can still sign a deal with Affliction or better yet go sign with Strikeforce and fight on NBC who will be televising live fights in the future.Tito is not going anywhere like it or not!
