I also had the cable timing mismatch (central time). I thought they were playing WEC''s greatest knockouts but it ended up being the first hour of the event.

What was more confusing is that when I turned on the event (at its "scheduled" time). The simpson fight had just begun and ended in a 20 second knockout thereby adding to my confusion thinking that WEC's greatest knockouts was still on.

This timing issue is scary. Why are they only showing 4 fights (technically 5)? Why was that event only 2 televised hours?

If Sonnen and Fabers fights would have been and gone 5 rounds we would have only seen 1.5 fights!

This was my main issue with the UFC's last card. They wasted 30 minutes of the PPV doing a Silva Cote hype session then "once the event started" it was Rogan and Goldies turn to hype it up and the first fight didn't even start till 45 minutes in.

I had a friend over who had never seen a UFC event before and he was bothered by the amount of time it took for the fights to start.

If the UFC keeps doing this I'll stop buying their PPV's and just download them 30 minutes after the event is done. I will make god damned certain that they will never see another penny of mine. I'll even download the shit they put on SPIKE just to not watch the commercials.

Who the fuck wants to pay two dollars on the internet to see fights that I paid to see for 50 dollars on my TV!?!

"Yeah, hey guys now the events over and we still have pizza and beer so lets gather around my laptop and I'll pay 2 dollars so we can watch a low resolution fight on my 12.1" Lenovo tablet!

While were at it guys how about one of you stick your dick up my ass so I can literally feel what the UFC is doing to me by making such a brash and self-serving proposition."

With WEC it's harder to complain because it's free. But I still can complain because their revenue is contingent upon me (the viewer) watching.

The fact that they didn't have enough time to show they main card should be a huge indicator of a lack of planned timing.

Both of these cards I was totally pre-occupied with the fact that I was missing other fights. Anytime a fight would go to long (Filho I'm looking in your direction) I would think "this is cutting into the pre-lims"

Its really aggravated me the last 2 cards. I can see this happening with the UFC because its turning (quite obviously) into sports-entertainment. Lesnar former WWE and Cotour actor/entrepreneur in the main event and Machida no title shot because his style and personality are not marketable.

Now its spilling to the WEC. That's just sad. They were the sports card. Not a ton of fame just great cards and great production.

I really hope a lot of people (in some positions of power) start complaining about this.

In the mean time I am just going to compulsively e-mail MMA Live to see if I can get my complaint in the form of a question answered on air.

Just a comment on the time aspect. I agree completely with the crazy timing of the show but the absolute worst thing is my cable provider listed on the guide that it started at 7:00 MTN, but apparently it was actually 6:00 MTN because I missed the first hour. Thankfully Versus replays their events an hour later so I got to see the first two fights, albeit after the main event. That is the last time I trust the cable guide.

It seems from his article that he enjoyed the fights, with the exception of Filho-Sonnen of course. I agreed with most of his points, I just disagreed with how he portrayed the event. He mentions how the card had great potential (as it did), and it sounds like he (and many others) over-hyped it, making it seem like a bad event. I personally try (a lot of times unsuccessfully) to un-hype every fight, so it's as exciting as it can be.

The past few events somebody from Five Ounces has been less than excited with the cards. My comment was more directed at the lack of enthusiasm for recent events than anything else, as I disagreed with them (thus I remembered them.

Goomba, with all due respect, we all ( yes you included) have our opinions of the last few shows. And I am certain Sam Caplan is flattered that you think so much of his opinion that it gets a response from you. Many people agree with his opinion, many do not. I happen to agree with his assesment of this event. Looked CRAZY good on paper but didn't turn out that way in reality. However the WEC is and remains the best produced and well run company in the sport.

David Andrest,
I'm not saying they haven't shown positives lately, but it just seems they are in a really negative mood the past couple months. If my memory serves me right, I think they were very happy about the EXC card with the Carano, Shields, and Radach fights.

And to Robert,
I was at 90, so it was probably a different experience to me, but I found it very exciting. I have no idea how much of the undercard made it, but Aurelio-Franca and Horwich-Miller had a great fight. Yes, the Maynard-Clementi fight was boring, and Silva-Cote was pretty boring and left everyone with a bad taste, but I felt it was a pretty stacked card. Alves and Koscheck had a great fight. UFC 89 looked good originally, but with Silva-Machida falling off, it did lose a lot of starpower. Other than that, especially for a free card, I felt it was pretty good.

As for the Zuffa fanboy comment, I love all MMA. I loved PRIDE, the IFL, I went to an Extreme Challenge show over watching UFC 89 on the first run-through, and watched all the EXC shows. And with the exception of the Kimbo fights, I thoroughly enjoyed them, especially their last event. I was really looking forward to their Nov. 8th event with Alvarez vs. Diaz. I haven't gotten to watch DREAM due to me not having HDNet, but I've watched some videos and hope the promotion continues to put on great fights.

Faber was hurt w/ the original shot that put him against the fence. He had been hurt a couple of time earlier in the fight too. I think that elbow was a desperation move as he was trying to get his legs back underneath him. He was on wobbly legs before that last shot hit him in the ear. Although short, both the Faber/Brown and Garcia/Pulver fights were fun to watch!

This was hardly a great card and UFC 89 did suck 90 was a letdown besides Sherk/Griffin, but 92 should be very strong indeed. There is no reason you can't be objectionable if a fight card is good it's good if it sucked it sucked no matter who's putting it on UFC, Strikeforce, Sengoku, PFC, or Adrenaline. People need to stop taking sides with a certain promotion, when you are not personally involved in it. You don't own part of the UFC or WEC, Dana White is not your friend get over it people you can like MMA, besides what Zuffa is selling you.

You guys just aren't happy with anything, are you? At least not anything Zuffa made. You are disappointed with this, disappointed with a "paper-thin" UFC 90 card, and disappointed with UFC 89. And UFC 92 probably doesn't have enough title matches for you. It was a great card.

"I really would have liked to see Brown and Faber go at it for a little while longer so that we could get a more definitive sense of who the better fighter is.?"

I'm sure Brown really shares your dissapointment. :P
Also I'm sure most people would be just as interested to see Silva vs. Sonnen than they were to see Silva vs. Cote. My two cents, otherwise good read.

Good call, Ross - I was thinking the same thing. What makes Faber a fun fighter to watch is that 'let it fly' style; usually it propels him to victory, last night it got him caught. It is interesting in contrast to the fight against Pulver . . . he played that out so tightly - just banging away, and against Brown he opened up for the long bomb and narrowly missed, and his big swing plus Brown's big swing put him on the deck.

Great write-up, Sam Caplan.

It is interesting in contrast to the fight against Pulver . . . he played that out so tightly – just banging away, and against Brown he opened up for the long bomb and narrowly missed, and his big swing plus Brown’s big swing put him on the deck.

Great write-up, Sam Caplan.

The whoring to the advertisers sank the usually nice flow to WEC events. They ABSOLUTELY should have shown Cowboyeee vs Razor Rob, I mean WTF... recent Champ vs. and a HIGHLY (deservedly!) touted up-n-comer (both whom are very entertaining fighters in their own right) get the snub over a WEC virgin and a skilled, but relative unknown... ??? (they better check themselves ,before they WRECK-(age) themselves)....

---------But how was I to know that Faber was going to swing for the fences and whiff completely with an ill-advised back elbow?
*
because he attempts some crazy move in all of his fights and has up to last night been lucky/good enough to get away with it.

Can someone explain why the WEC's shows are only scheduled for 2 hours of airtime (while the UFC is generally 3 hours)? I assume that it has to do with cost of airtime, but cummon .... has a live WEC show ever only lasted the alotted 2 hrs? Last night had mostly very early knockouts and only 1 televised match going to decision. Also, originally there were 2 5-rounders to be televised. The show as originally planned could have easily gone over 3 hours!
I wonder if the rush to get off the air was the reason they didn't even interview Sonnen in the cage after his win. I think fans were really interested in his reaction to a bizarre fight and fighter, so what exactly happened here?

Faber is one of my favorite fighters, and I predicted him to win. That said, this is MMA, and a large part of the reason it's so exciting is exactly what we saw last night.

I said this yesterday before the card and I'll say it again. Cerrone vs. McCullough should have been on the televised card. Especially considering the title implications and circumstances.

At this point I'm not concerned with Filho as a fighter or where his career is going. He is in obvious need of help and I hope he get's it before attempting to go further in the sport.

Rosholt better learn how to tuck that chin in somewhere between the WEC and the train to the UFC, because if not, he's going to be making friends with the Bud Light Decal on the floor of the octagon.

Now that Faber has lost, I wonder what this does to the WEC's plans of going PPV? It was a terrible idea to begin with, but not having Faber as champ anymore probably makes it look even worse.

I'm a huge fan of Faber, Torres, Varner, and Condit but would anybody pay for a PPV that headlines Mike Brown and maybe one of the other champs?

WEC should stay on Versus HD where it belongs.

Great attitude by Faber, by the way, and I hope he comes back better than ever. The unorthodox style that wins so many fights cost him this time. Shit happens. :)

Filho was a mess. I expect to see a failed drug test - he was wiping his nose so often I thought he may have been snorting rails beforehand. The guy clearly needs help, and it must be a bittersweet victory for Sonnen.
