A broken toe will prevent Strikeforce lightweight champion Josh Thomson from making his first-ever defense as scheduled during Strikeforce’s “Destruction” event scheduled for Nov. 21 at the HP Pavilion in San Jose, Calif.

The news is according to a report by our friends at MMAjunkie.com.

Thomson had been scheduled to take on UFC and EliteXC veteran Yves Edwards. Junkie’s report indicates that Edwards will remain on the card and is instead set to square off with another former UFC vet in Duane “Bang” Ludwig.

The 30-year old Ludwig last competed during Strikeforce’s “Payback” event last month in Denver, Colo. Facing Sammy Morgan, Ludwig avenged a previous loss to Morgan from April of 2005 following a TKO at 2:01 of round 1.

Ludwig, 17-8, holds notable victories in his eight-year MMA career over the likes of Charles “Krazy Horse” Bennett, Thomas Denny, Jens Pulver, Genki Sudo, and Tony Fryklund.

geez, i hope its a real bad break on his big toe or something if he is really pulling out of a bout with ten days to go… i know toes are important for standup and shooting but still…
