Well I do not think this is a Case of giving Gina a shot. Gina is a top level and well known fighter, as stated previously she IS the face of Womens MMA. What Dana is testing is first the Market for Womens MMA (Ie. Paper View events vs free broadcast.). And FInally and more importantly Dana cannot just sign Gina and a couple other female fighters, if Womens MMA is to grow into a womens compareable UFC Dana is going to need a large Quality Female MMA pool of talent at various weight classes. I mean the UFC is known for its set-up and quality cards, it takes alot more then 1 face and a few MMA fighters to make a whole new division. Compared to making a new weight class in the UFC creating an entire high quality womens division will be alot of effort and quite a bit more expensive comparitively. Thats what I think Dana means, he is a smart guy after all who took a failing company to the preimere MMA division in America is not the world. Just my 2 bits.

It sounds like Dana would take Gina, but what about the other talented women fighters? Does he think he can sign Gina to an exclusive contract but put everone else on one figth deals?

unfortunately gina would have to take the offer imo, she is the face of womens mma, so all the women fighters are counting on her to help all thier careers. when womens mma first became public i had very low expectations. but thx to women like gina, i became a huge fan real quick. the women fights were more often then not way more entertaining and exciting then the mens fights. i am dieing to see more pre womens mma, and esp to see gina return to the cage. there is no comparison to wnba which is boring as f*ck to watch, this is a huge draw and wherever gina carefully chooses to go will be an important step for women fighters. so goin with the top fight organization on the planet is a no brainer. yes he will prolly pay her sh*t but this would be the first step b4 bringing it to the ufc and eventually headlining a big promotion ppv. sorry you might have to dance with the devil gina, but think about the sport and all the up and coming women fighters who want that mainstream success. i hope this happens, womens mma deserves more respect and this will be the first step to a brighter future.

I think that Dana is going to test the water’s and love what he finds, and that is that there is alot of female talent at not just 145lbs, but also at 135, and 125. I wouldn’t be surprised if WEC ends up with at least 2 or 3 of these female weight classes.

I LOVE Gina. She is awesome. Her fights on CBS were the best fights on the cards. I hope the business side doesn’t turn bad for her and I hope she keeps fighting somewhere, she has major talent.

wow big one Dana “test the waters” and “give her a shot”

Her two fights on CBS pulled big numbers and other than Kimbo Slice is probably the biggest name fighter outside the UFC to the casual fan

sticking her on the hockey network know as VS. is a suppose to be a step up?

Move all of the relevant male fighters from the WEC to the UFC and change the acronym for WEC from World Extreme Cagefighting to Women’s Extreme Cagefighting! I’d watch that!

my heart just dropped while reading. please Dana if do truly wish to promote women MMA make a separate promotion just for when you have enough women fights to fill out a card. keep it separate like in other sports. it would be horrible to have all of the amazingly stacked WEC cards peppered with women fights.
