I love MMA no lie and i love boxing but you would have to be a fool to think ANY mma fight will outsell a Big boxing match like MARGARITO VS SUGAR i mean that fight will be watched all over the states AND mexico i doubt the affliction match would. Im watching the DE LA HOYA pac man bout and compared to the UFC Lesnar vs couture fight theres just way more Hype media MOney in the boxing world right now.

G-Dub, I think UFC is aiming for more casual fan by airing UFC 91 counter to Affliction. Getting Brock on the air for free will cause some interference for the live PPV. Brock still commands tremendous name recognition, and the WWE fans might tune in to see what their former star is doing. Ideally they will ike it and purchase the next UFC card that Brock is on.

What might be intriguing is to air a partial live event with some decent mid-level performers like a Danzig or Sadollah then add the Florian-Stevenson and Lesnar-Couture fights from UFC 91 to showcase the best fights from that card.

Chris …. that’s a solid call about UFC 91 airing that Sat night. More likely than not, I bet you’re right. However, that shouldn’t affect Affliction buys too much. Anyone who is considering buying the Affliction PPV has almost certainly bought or seen UFC 91. On the surface, seems like a good idea for the UFC, but not going to create the interference they’re looking for. In order to pull potential buyers away, they really need a live event.

Jester, you are right concerning the historical popularity of boxing, but MMA as we know it has been around for 15 years. The concept of Mixed Martial Arts was implemented by Ancient Greeks in the art of Pankration, so MMA or at least the core of MMA has been around for over 2000 years. And of course, it never gained any popularity until now.

Sucks for Aff, but that Aff card isnt even that good., Fedor and AA is a good fight, but other than that is just the same old guys mixed around, Nogs and Vlad, Babalu vs Tito maybe, few others, not a great card. And Shane vs Margo on reg HBO, not PPV, and you know right now that Spike will air UFC 91 Brock vs Randy that same night too. Or UFC 92, probably not 92 cause it would only be a month old, so 91 is what they will air. So Brock vs Randy, a huge boxing match on regular HBO, Aff is in trouble. Since they dont even have alot of buzz for this card, I mean lets be real, Fedor is the best HW in the world, but since he isnt in the UFC, people dont even know who he is, nor do they care about him. Yeah thats a great fight, but Aff is going down, everyone knows it, I cant wait to see what PPV buys they do on this card. I mean its one thing, the UFC does a PPV card every month, so they can have a weak card, do 200k buys, but next month do 500k. Aff is doing shows every 3 months, and they went from July, to Jan between cards. So if this card does 100k buys like last card, they are done. How long are they gonna build debt up? If they put on a card every other month and it did well they can live, but if this card doesnt do atleast 300k ppv buys, they are done. By the way, anyone know the number of PPV buys the Brock Randy fight didnt?

so what is UFC’s counter-programming card going to be? two free high-end boxing and mma events at the same time as PPV Afflication? Tough for Affliction.

mma is probably one of my most favourite things in the world.

that said, i find boxing boring and rarely ever watch it unless it’s some big fight thats has a free repeat on tv and even then i don’t get nearly the same entertainment value from it.

i’ll buy afflcition’s event–not only was the last show entertaining and full of quality fights, but any serious competition against the UFC is only going to make the sport better and give the fighters out there better options.

This sux for Affliction. A major boxing match will, right now, outdraw even THE BEST MMA card. Boxing has been a major sport for over 4000 years (Wiki it – you’ll see) while MMA has only been around for 15 years.

Affliction is competing with the biggest dog in the yard in UFC, which is tough enough – but to have to compete with its own promotional partner….that’s harsh. With friends like these……

While I am more a fan of UFC, I like the fact that Affliction is in the MMA business. I think the competition will bring out the best from both organizations to the ultimate benefit of us – the fans. I hope that this undercutting by Golden Boy doesn’t spell or hasten the demise of Affliction MMA.

Really? Margarito vs. Mosely would be televised on HBO rather than PPV? Interesting. Just another nail in the Affliction coffin. As much as I prefer MMA to boxing (but a fan of both), this will hurt Affliction’s buys. Quite frankly though, I didn’t think that Affliction would fair any better this time around than they did the last time … even without the boxing.

this sucks, i will have to miss one of them. i do like boxing and mma, although my tolerance for boxing is down to just the biggest fights (and no mayweather type of dancing BS), but mosely vs. margarito is going to be a really good fight.

i won’t pay for affliction so I’ll have to go to a bar to watch it and they probably won’t have the boxing match. the biggest problem for affliction is that the boxing match is on cable, not PPV. anyone who does like both will probably opt for the free option.

This is just hilarious. Who needs competition with partner’s like this? I seriously dout that Affliction will be able to defeat Margarito vs. Mosley in the box office. Maybe they will but a lot of boxing purist’s will be watching that fight so that makes it a long shot.

Im here to say that affliction fucked up…yes i said it they fucked up. By putting an event on the same night as a huge boxing match like mosely vs margarito is just stupid. yes hardcore mma fans will tune in but the viewership among casual fight fans is going to watch the boxing, its just fact. Affliction would be best served to move there event up a week or back a week if the want to have a successful event imho.

Anyone who thinks that the Affliction event will come close to viewership of Mosley Margarito is out of “they flippin mind”. You obviously know nothing of boxing.

For instance if Golden Boy really was worried, do you think they would risk putting the event against the Affliction card? They didn’t even care. Neither would I. Affliction will not be around very long. They are only in it to further build and advertise their clothing line. Even if promoting events fails, think of all the promotion they’ve gotten for their clothing line from partnering w/ CBS to Golden Boy. I’d be surprised if we see another show after this one.

Shane Mosley and Antonio Margarito

Boxing is DEAD!! The only anticipated Boxing macth this year will be Dela hoya vs. Pacman
