If people are really thinking he is using tongue and cheek then u are really reaching for a defense for him…and if he did, it was horrible use.

he still play down hazelett’s work ethic …he basically says

“yea he has really good work ethic, but its not as good as mine”

he’s conceited, stop defending him

Jorge should stick with reffing or definitely move to these other organizations where the competition isn’t as stiff. He’s gotta build himself up again. I’m not saying that his opponents were the toughest out there but there’s obviously some issues with him being in the top organization. I think that this guy just needs to get the mental aspect more down and he’ll come back stronger than ever. He did pretty well in his last fight but it was a little too late to show his talent.

Great interview and this definitely reassures my faith in Jorge. Anyone that thinks he takes credit for Hazlett obv doesnt get the tongue in cheek tone. Reading the next lines about Hazlett training explains what he meant. I do also think Jorge has a great work ethic, maybe not 2nd in the world to Rich, but seriously those dudes train insanely, anyone remember the All Access with Rich? But I do agree alot of top level guys train like that now too, but anyway. Jorge just wanted to be an exciting fighter and now he has found out he has to worry about winning first, the UFC isn’t like Pride back in the day, you need to win to stay, after worrying about the winning he can mix in the excitement. I think we will finally see Jorge’s BJJ skills when he fights in Strikeforce

Gurgel acknowledges he’s made a lot of stupid mistakes and can identify important qualities in good fighters, but he honestly seems to lack the capacity to become a great fighter himself.

Jorge G. “THE CABANA BOY”… has some of the WORST strategy in MMA… he’s had so much time to change and hasn’t… I doubt his word”’ that he’ll change now… I hate stupid fighter’s (in the cage) and Cabana Boy is STUPID.

Nah – I don’t think he was taking all the credit for Hazelett during the interview. He was saying it a little tounge-in-cheek which is why he threw in the word “brother”. I actually give Gurgel some credit for being very honest in his answers so close after the release occurred.
