Corey Hill out of action for 12-18 months with broken leg; Yoshida suffers concussion

According to a report at UFC.com, Corey Hill underwent surgery today for the sickening shin bone break he endured in the opening moments of his fight last night against Dale Hartt. The surgery was done this morning by doctors at the Cape Fear Valley Medical Center in Fayetteville, NC.

Hartt checked a leg kick from Hill and Hill’s shin collided with his, snapping his leg at the shin. Hill immediately crumpled to the mat and the fight was stopped just a few seconds after.

The report states that Hill will be out anywhere from 12-18 months.

The report also had updates on several other fighters from last night’s show. Yoshiyuki Yoshida was stretchered out of the cage after his brutal KO loss to Josh Koscheck, treated for a concussion at the hospital, and discharged that same evening.

Jonathan Goulet suffered the same fate in his fight with Mike Swick and was also treated for a concussion and released the same night. Goulet may also have suffered a knee injury in the fight and is going to have it checked out when he returns to Canada.

At the time of the injury many people believed that Razak Al-Hassan had broken his arm but he apparently only disloacted his elbow during a sickening armbar from Steve Cantwell. He was treated for the injury and released from the hospital last night as well.

wow, that must suck for a fighter to be out of the game for that long and not training, especially at his age, a 2 yr abscene is gunna really hurt his game alot.

    what a gruesome night.

im glad they didnt show the shin break, pele’s shin break was sooo gross!

ironic theyre going on about traumatic brain injury for the vets, yet the fighters are getting concussed to raise money for it.

a couple questionable referring calls…that clingon forehead guy had that craziest swollen forehead EVER. ben saunders is a beast, but that fight should have been stopped earlier.

Didn’t Joe Theismann retire after his leg snapped? And he still walks with a limp.

Psycho Sid snapped his leg and hasn’t been anywhere near a wrestling ring since.

To say that Hill will be back in a year or year and a half is kind of presumptuous. He might never fight again.

Psycho sid still wrestles and is still a monster. His work is still pretty decent. I undertand he plays competitive softball as well. You would never be able to tell he broke his leg unless he showed you the scar

i havent seen a nasty leg break in mma for a while, feel bad for corey
Cant say i have much sympathy for Razak tho, tap you dickhead, plus he fights like a cunt. Hope Goulet gets the boot now too, gotta be one of the most pointless fighters in the UFC

His work would have had to have been decent before to qualify as being “still pretty decent.”

Razak definitely should have tapped, but I found it in very poor taste that Cantwell “has waited a long time” to break someone’s arm. That’s classless..and I hope they match him up against a top 10 LHW and they return the favor.

Word. What comes around will go around for Cantwell. He sounded like a major goon in my book & I can’t be the only one with that book.

I get so f**kin’ tired of all the Cantwell bashing. What the hell else is the purpose of the armbar if not to snap the opponent’s arm? We don’t know if his opponent was talking trash before the fight, if there’s prior bad blood between the two, etc.

I don’t watch MMA for class. Yes, I appreciate respect and honor, but if you’re going to pull a bonehead move like NOT TAPPING, then I have no respect for you. You asked for it, why should Cantwell be all touchy-feely about it? He just won! Who here hasn’t said something they probably regretted later after a feat like that?

I’ve always liked Steve Cantwell, and I can’t wait to see him fight again. You can bet your ass the rest of the division is going to see him as a threat now, and you can also be sure they will tap if they’re in the same position as Razek.

I have not nor do i want to see the corey hill injury ive seen injuriers like that before and they are devastating. i just hope he is going to recover fully from it. there is no way i guy his size should be fighting at that light a weight his bone structure had to have been comprimized. Koschecks ko was decent but against a guy that has no business in the ufc. Hassan is just a moron if you arent gonna tap im not gonna stop plan an simple glad his injury isnt as seruios as first thought but if he does it again i hope it gets broken. and ben saunders that was a very nice muay clinic you put on that dudes face im looking to see him fight a non tomatoe can before i make a real decision about his ability.

i agree with all comments thus far, theres no honor in not tapping from an armbar, hassan has a lot to learn.
