Affliction planning multiple events in 2009

With only one event currently scheduled for 2009, many have wondered what Affliction Entertainment plans are for the rest of the year. Affliction V.P. Tom Atencio provided some insight as to what could occur in 2009.

“Right now, we are looking at having four events in 2009,” said Atencio.

A lot of what will happen in 2009 depends on the success of the “Day of Reckoning” show headlined by Fedor Emelianenko defending the WAMMA heavyweight title against Andrei Arlovski.

“I’m just looking at the January show,” said Atencio, “and the next show would be about four to five months from then.”

If they have another show after the one in January I’d be shocked.

A far cry from Werdum’s claim of “Over 16″, isn’t it?

not if you Count in Affliction M1 Challange, which is not really an Affliction show as much as it is a co-promotion but still

I am rooting for their success and buying some of the less hideous Affliction products for friends and relatives this year.

I’m no math wizard but if they’re only going to be doing events once every 4-5 months then how will they fit 4 events into the year? And by the way they’ll be dead by June.

I see Affliction as the US version of DREAM.
Also, not really a fan of MMA in a ring but they do have a nice stable of fighters so I will continue to watch.

I really hope affliction does well. They just need some more exposure like a tv deal so everyone could see what affliction is. Most people have no idea what affliction is. I know I will be watching in January and will be hoping for future events.

If they are able to pull off four shows this year it would probably be January-May-September-late December which, if they are still around would mean a late start to 2010 and probably only 2 or 3 shows that year. It’s really all fantasy anyway because i don’t see them getting two shows off in 2009, let alone any in 2010, especially if their so-called “partners” are going to schedule huge boxing events across town on the same exact night. What a joke.
