A heavyweight tilt between Junior “Cigano” dos Santos and UFC newcomer Stefan Struve has been added to the card for UFC 95 on Saturday, February 21 at the O2 Arena.
The news come courtesy of a report by the German MMA website, Groundandpound.de.
UFC 95 will mark dos Santos’ encore performance following a stunning first round upset TKO during his UFC debut at UFC 90 this past October against top ten ranked heavyweight Fabricio Werdum.
The win improved the Brazilian’s record to 7-1 and put the Team Nogueira product on the map as one of the sport’s top up and coming heavyweights.
His scheduled opponent, Struve, is a Dutch fighter with a 16-2 record who recently signed a four-fight contract with the UFC. Despite being just 20-years old, it would appear that Struve doesn’t lack any confidence in his abilities.
“I think I can beat most of the guys there,” Struve was quoted as telling the UK-based MMA magazine Fighters Only soon after signing with the promotion. “They have five or six really good heavyweights. The other guys… not so good, I think.”
Even though he only has been competing as a professional since 2005, Struve has already amassed a respectable 16-2 record with notable victories over former UFC veterans Colin Robinson and Mario Neto.
As of now, the UFC has yet to officially announce any fights for UFC 95 but matchups between Diego Sanchez vs. Joe Stevenson, Wilson Gouveia vs. Nathan Marquardt, and Jeff Lawson vs. Shannon Gugerty, Justin Buchholz vs. Terry Etim have all been reported. Additionally, heavyweight Neil Grove is also expected to make his UFC debut on the card.
