Nick your point about the Faber / Pulver fight is a good one. Too one-sided to be fight of the year, but honestly the list needs a lot of adjusting. And aguilar I have to disagree and I’m a big Tito Ortiz supporter, but that fight with Machida was one of the worst Tito Ortiz fights I’ve seen. Granted that was mostly Machida’s fault but nevertheless a very uninspiring match to say the least.

A few people referenced Faber vs Pulver as left off the list. The reason it did not make my top ten is because the fight, although overall exciting, was very one-sided in my opinion. To make a top ten list of fights, I believe both fighters have to show that they had a chance of winning the fight. It was an exciting match, but Pulver never really threatened in that fight. It was all Faber.

When I think of the best fights from this year, without even looking at any lists, Faber/Pulver and then also Torres/Maeda are two of the very first fights I think of. I remember being glued to that fight for every minute of that 5 minute fight.

I had a pretty big crown over that night and usually there is sporadic conversation during all of the fights. While the clock was going, there was complete silence. At the end of each round, there would be a frenzy of comments and opinions, only to be hushed again at the start of the next round.

I gotta think you forgot about Faber/Pulver somehow, cause I can’t understand how that would not be included.

they should wait for the 3 mega fights that are coming up

I know it’s tough to give a guy #1 and #2 on this list..but the Alvarez v Kawajiri fight was probably the 2nd best fight of the year IMO.

I’ve got to get Nick’s back on a couple here:

1) Guida vs. Huerta was 2007, not 2008.

2. Kelly vs. Taylor was a solid scrap, but a top ten fight!? It was a fight that was really short on technique.

I also feel Nick’s pain here. I’ve done my fair share of “Top Ten” articles in the past and no matter how much time you put into compiling your list, people are going to complain… which I personally don’t mind. As a former sports talk show host, sparking debate was a part of the job.

But here’s what I am going to do starting Monday: we just launched a brand new store and our partners with Code of Silence have generously donated a prize pack. We’re going to have a highly subjective contest where people can submit their own list of top ten fights and I will choose the best list. Winner of the best list gets the Code of Silence prize pack.

Fight of the decade. It was back and forth all fight from getting out of mounts to carlos eating rights. Nice submission attempts, great Ground and Pound and oh yeah, the best judo throws of the year!

Seems there’s only 4 people who use judo effectively and one of them is a diaz brother.

Faber/Pulver COULD have been there

Regardless these pics were spot on. The only way you would have lost me is if you would have left off Carlos Condit vs. Hiromitsu Miura but you picked it up in honorable mention.

I am disgusted that Brock Lesnar vs Randy Couture made the list and incrediby high at that, while Andrei Arlovski vs Ben Rothwell failed to make the list when it clearly in all aspects was the better fight. In addition to that, it is better than Nogueira/Sylvia as well, although I think Nogueira/Sylvia deserved a spot on the list whereas Couture/Lesnar was serviceable, but the worst fight shown from UFC 91. This list is solid but definitely improveable by a longshot.
