Alistair Overeem claims he’s in talks with the UFC

Strikeforce heavyweight champion and DREAM standout Alistar Overeem has revealed his representatives have been engaged in possible contract talks with both the UFC and Affliction.

Overeem, who is coming off a first round knockout over former K-1 heavyweight champion Badr Hari during a K-1 rules match at FEG’sDynamite!!” on New Year’s Eve, made the revelation during an interview with the website DreamFighters.com.

“My management has been in contact with Affliction as well as the UFC,” Overeem is quoted as saying.

Overeem also talked about his future plans by mentioning that he has issued challenges to UFC heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar, WAMMA heavyweight champion Fedor Emelianenko, and Remy Bojansky in a match that would be contested under K-1 rules.

However, Overeem said that his most immediate move will be to go on vacation during the month of January before returning to the gym in February. Part of his vacation plans included attenting UFC 93 in Dublin, Ireland on January 17. It’s possible he could speak with UFC officials at that time about a contract but the promotion is unlikely to sign him if he cannot remain exclusive to them.

He’s gotta stop his roid cycle for a while if he wants to fight in N. America. I don’t see him piss’n clean. Buddy has doubled in size the last couple of years. His head looks too small for his body now. He’s got the skills though.

He issued challenges to MMA fighters for K-1 kickboxing fights? Why not a challenge to slow pitch softball games? Dude’s a little goofy.

I would love to see Overeem in the UFC or Affliction.. There are some great match ups waiting for him

  6. hambone says:

Mr Wolfe, please reread the article.

I also believe that Overeem may be on the juice as well. I think it was bloody elbow that had a summary of his weight and pics to show his growth since the Buentello fight. He has ballooned.

    I like his skills, though.

  7. Brendhan says:

I believe the reason Overeem issued the challenge to Bojansky as being under K-1 rules was because he wanted to take Remy on in the sport he’s best at (as opposed to in MMA where Overeem has the experience/training advantage).

  8. JOHN says:

Im pretty sure he issued the challenge for k-1 rules to show he can strike instead of being a 1 sided wrestler

  9. Rich S. says:

ya, CP did an article the other day on his size difference over the past few days..

all you have to do is watch his fight with Liddell, and then the Hari fight, and you can see the size difference is DRASTIC.

Agree or Disagree: Thumb up 0 Thumb down 0

  10. Marshall says:

Yeah “Rich S.” the fight with Liddell was in 2003 and Overeem is 6 FT. 5 inches tall. When your frame is that big and you add 30 or 40 lbs. of muscle guess what you’re going to look huge. People are so fast to make accusations when they have zero proof. Only their think the worst mentality.

  11. Jason G says:

Its not really fair to say he’s on roids without proof. I believe he’s said in past interviews that when he fought at 205 he walked around at 225+. So basically he’s put on 30 lbs in two years, not impossible.

hey alistair overeem did not take any steriods, i am from holland and i know the guy …. he is just a great athlete…. and one of the best mma -heavyweights now in the WORLD… and when he go to the ufc or affliction he will DOMINATE the heavyweigts division , Greetings from holland ‘SUCKERS’!!!!

  13. JOEgun says:

Although his difference in size from from when he fought Chuck is obvious, it wouldn’t suprise me if he did juice but its definitely possible to add that much muscle without it. Either way, I think he has the skills do do well in the UFC and would like that to happen.

  14. Austin says:

Overeem won’t go. He has the Dream belt, Strikeforce belt, and still wants to fight for both. He’d get destroyed again by fedor though.

  15. Marshall says:

Austin what do you mean again ? Fedor never fought Overeem.

  16. HexRei says:

I have no proof, but I believe Overeem has been doing some juice. His skull has grown a lot in the last five years, and cranial growth is a known side effect of roids. My brother is 6′5″ and almost exactly the same age as Overeem, and his head has not grown nearly so much, although he also doesnt work out much so probably does have lower natural testosterone levels. But still, compare before and after pics, Alistair’s head is gigantic now.

Agree or Disagree: Thumb up 0 Thumb down 0

  17. HexRei says:

Oh and Mike Wolfe, I’m pretty sure Alistair was (in the post-fight) speaking out against kickboxers who commonly claim that MMA strikers can’t hang with kickboxers under kickboxing rules. That’s all. I don’t think he he was trying to call out other MMA fighters under kickboxing rules.

  18. Axl Rose says:

The guy is a juicehead no doubt!!!!! You can’t go from a skinny bitch frame to a full out bloated look just like that! The juuuuuuuuuuuice is looooooooooooose!!! It doesn’t matter he is not coming to the UFC!

  19. CaptainAmerica1967 says:

Roids is right! He went from fighting at a weight of 205 up to 265 in no time.

  20. HexRei says:

Ok, at risk of triple-posting (actually not risk, I AM triple posting) Mike Wolfe, I see what you meant, from the interview now. My impression was that he was calling out Remy Bojansky (a kickboxer with a win over his brother Valentijn) under K-1 rules. Fedor and Lesnar were, in my opinion, not supposed to be included in the K-1 rules statement- he just meant he wants to fight them in his usual MMA environment.

  21. Bullylover says:

I’d love to see overeem in the ufc. I hope joe silva pits him up against Kongo or Gonzaga or even herring. thos would be some great match ups. However i think a fight between him and Lesnar can go either way. Either Lesnar’s speed, power, wrestling & athleticisim will be to much for overeem or his caliber of striking is going to KTF Lesnar.

  22. jj420 says:

jesus, everyone that thinks they know everything about Alistair because they can magically measure his skull size from watching a video or because they think a guy cant gain muscle mass without steroids. the guy lives in a gym.

Alistair has already fought in california, the state with the most stringent drug testing policies in the united states. the chances of him not being tested for a title fight are about one in a billion. now STFU.

Agree or Disagree: Thumb up 0 Thumb down 0

  23. HexRei says:

passing one test doesn’t mean crap, and you don’t need to measure his head to note his skull growth. Also, real mature telling people to stfu. grow up little man.

PS You can pass a roid test simply by timing your cycle properly. You might also note that he has only fought in the US three times, and each time was far enough apart that he could actually have put in a cycle or two and still passed a test. Your evidence makes noting skull growth look like hard science.

  24. paddiosf says:

I love the idea of him coming over to the UFC but the Exclusive contract I bet gets in the way..plus with the UFC looking to make a move to Germany they need more Europeans fighters in the roster of fighters..

Agree or Disagree: Thumb up 0 Thumb down 0

  25. Axl Rose says:

Daaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaamn!!! Well said Hexrei!!! I did not have theenergy to write all of that but i couldn’t have done it any better!! Most guys are on the juice and they are just experts at timing the cycles so they don’t get caught! People believing that is all from the gym….it’s just pathetic!

  26. russiandoeboi says:

    overeem is SO on roids,
brock was on roids (judging from the photos from the fake wrestling daze.) – he’s so defensive about it because he has a guilty conscience – if i worked really hard to get in shape without cheating i’d wanna prove it and would want to talk about it

  29. Muscle Uber Alles says:

Anyone notice Overeem has gained a lot of muscle in the past 14 months?

He never carried a fraction of that muscle in Pride.

  30. russiandoeboi says:

he should fight in the ultimate steroid club

Agree or Disagree: Thumb up 0 Thumb down 0

  31. Tyler says:

@ Muscle Uber Alles “He never carried a fraction of that muscle in Pride ” you think maybe that’s because he was fighting at 205 and is six ft. five inches tall. That would probably make him look a lot thinner don’t you think?

  32. russiandoeboi says:

that’s a good point however it seems freakishly extreme

  33. Steven says:

It doesn’t matter if he does roids. That the problem with MMA heavy weights today. I prefer the fighters do roids.
Same for the NFL. Everyone is dooing them in both sports. While roids don’t make one a better fighter technically, it certainly gives a physical advantage
Roid it up Overeem! Husss husss!

Agree or Disagree: Thumb up 0 Thumb down 0

  34. reggie says:

overeem is not on roids he simply changed his diet eating what ever he wants and lifts heavier weight dudes. he has a better chance at heavy weight with his speed just like brandon V, was very successful at HW better so than 205.
