i just think that someone should be compensated for their abilities…Bj sold that fight and made it happen…All the pre-fight hype was all him….Gsp is a dud when it comes to that cause he trys to always play the nice guy roll…It’s just so people wouldn’t expect him to cheat when he does! lol…But what your family got doesn’t matter! If you’re that good you should be paid THAT GOOD!

I guarantee you BJ falls in one of these categories. Hell all of the fighters listed do to some extent with sponsorship dollars. Matt Arroyo got 8K with another 8K possible. At 4 fights per year that is 32-64K base salary potential not counting bonus or sponsorship money. I know alot of people who would be happy with the base salary not to mention how fast you pay can escalate if you are good at your job. I agree that the fighters should be paid better but let’s face it the majority of fighters at this level are far from poverty stricken.

How many fighters would PAY to get on a UFC card?

Sure, the new guys don’t make much money at all, but they stand to make a hell of a lot if they do well.

The new guys don’t bring any fans to the show, and stand to gain quite a few. Jon Jones didn’t get paid much, but now his name is known amongst fans which is worth quite a bit to him.

wow bj penn got 125k for doing his best impression of a whiny little bitch. Wait he is a whiny little bitch. he should have not been payed a dime because i dont remember seeing him fight just bleed and cry. then try to make excuses for his getting his as kicked. He needs to take him and the bitches he runs with back to hilo and beat up people on the street like the punk bitch he is. ive never seen a guy with less class or respect in my life So please Dana put hin in the ring against florian so he can get beat again then he will retire, and if he doesnt drop him from the company.

I always shake my head when I see these figures, though I know it’s not a simple argument. You’re building the brand/sport, so you can’t pay big numbers to everyone. It’s the under 10K fighters that kill me, especially the ones that were on the televised part of the card. Thankfully in his case it was only Jon Jones, but still, come on – $7,000? Really?

Like most industries, while it’s growing you’ll have barons like Dana and Co. that make a killing until competent competitors show up to level the playing field. Until then they are the ones taking the risk building the sport, so it’s arguably justitifed that they rape the fighters the best they can with this kind of pay. I just wish the UFC has/had competent rivals, rather than the fools at Affliction and EliteXC.

Last I checked 125k was alot of money…had BJ won it would have been a quarter mil. It’s not like BJ needs money anyways, the Primetime series mentioned that BJ’s family was very rich about fifty times.

It could be improved upon but I’d much rather see the guys at the top getting a little less and the guys at the bottom getting a little more…

It is great to see fighters make more money, but they are far from paid well according to this. BJ Penn makes only $125k to show? Yikes.

looks like a better payroll than most events, at least no one got stuck with 3,000 or something completely ridiculous. Howard would have been completely screwed if it weren’t for the bonus.

Jon Jones stands to make a whole lot more next time out I would assume.
