Four UFN 17 fighters receive medical suspensions

A total of four fighters have received medical suspensions from the Florida State Athletic Commission, which oversaw last Saturday’s UFC Fight Night 17 event at the USF Sun Dome in Tampa.

According to records obtained by FiveOuncesOfPain.com from the commission, Denis Stojnic, Luigi Fioravanti, Matt Grice, and Derek Downey have all been suspended as a result of injuries sustained during the event.

Stojnic, who suffered a second round TKO loss to Cain Velasquez, was suspended for 30 days.

In addition to being released by the UFC after the event, Fioravanti who has since was also suspended for 30 days following his first round TKO loss to Anthony Johnson.

Grice received a 30-day suspension following his first round TKO loss to Matt Veach.

It was also a rough debut for Downey. In addition to lossing to Nick Catone via second round submission, the kickboxing standout was released by the UFC and also received a 30-day medical suspension.
