World Extreme Cagefighting has announced the addition of two more bouts to WEC 40, which will mark the Zuffa-owned promotion’s first foray into Chicago on April 5.
Manny Tapia (10-1-1), who is coming off a second round TKO loss to bantamweight champion Miguel Torres at WEC 37 in December, will take on Akitoshi Tamura (12-7-2). Tamura lost to Wagnney Fabiano in his WEC debut on the same card.
Also added is a featherweight tilt between Rafael Dias (11-5-1) and Cole Province (5-1). Dias who trains with America’s Top Team will be looking to even his WEC record at 1-1 after losing via TKO to Danny Castillo at WEC 36 back in November. Province also was unsuccessful in his WEC debut dropping a unanimous decision to Diego Nunes at WEC 37.
The card is shaping up pretty nicely and will be bolstered by the hometown hero Miguel Torres defending his bantamweight championship against undefeated Brian Bowles.
Here are the fights that have been announced thus far:
- Miguel Torres vs. Brian Bowles for the WEC bantamweight title
- Joseph Benavidez vs. Jeff Curran
- Wagnney Fabiano vs. Fredson Paixao
- Ben Henderson vs. Shane Roller
- Akitoshi Tamura vs. Manny Tapia
- Rafael Assuncao vs. TBA
- Rafael Dias vs. Cole Province
