Fight promotion MMA Big Show has alerted FiveOuncesOfPain.com that they will be featuring two title fights as well as two former veterans of The Ultimate Fighter on their “Conviction” card that’s set take place on June 20 from Belterra Casino & Resorts in Beltarra Indiana.
Fighting for the 170 pound title will be the controversial Jon “War Machine” Koppenhaver, who will be taking on Roger Bowling.
Koppenhaver was on season six of The Ultimate Fighter and fought on the shows finale defeating Jared Rollins. His life has been filled with a lot of turmoil since then as he was released from the organization after he made some off-color remarks regarding the death of Evan Tanner.
Koppenhaver was later hired and fired by the upstart Bellator Fighting Championships before they even had a chance to hold their first event. However, Koppenhaver rebounded nicely last month when he defeated previously unbeaten Guillame de Lorenzi at XMMA 7.
Koppenhaver’s opponent, Roger Bowling, fights for Team Vision out of Cincinnati Ohio. He is currently 5-0, according to the MMA Big Show website.
Fighting for the 155 lbs. title will be another veteran of season six of The Ultimate Fighter, Joe Scarola. The Long Island native lost to eventual season six winner Mac Danzig during the season’s first episode. He then went on to alienate himself from his friend and coach Matt Serra by constantly asking to make a phone call to his girlfriend until Serra eventually had enough and had him kicked off the show.
To this day the two have not reconciled and Scarola, who is 4-1, now runs his own Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu school on Long Island, New York. Scarola’s opponent, Joe Ammerman, is a teammate of Bowling’s and sports a record of 3-1.
No other fights have been announced as of yet but we will keep you updated when the organization makes more announcements.
