Sylvia vs. Mercer boxing match moved to Alabama

Monte Cox is a persistent man if nothing else. After the New Jersey State Athletic Control Board refused to sanction the proposed boxing match between 47 year old former heavyweight champion Ray Mercer and former UFC heavyweight champion Tim Sylvia, Cox has found the fight a home.

Sherdog.com is reporting that the Adrenaline III card which will feature both MMA and boxing bouts has been moved to Birmingham, Alabama and will take place June 13th. Apparently there is no athletic commission in Alabama and the fight will go on as planned.

Mercer, will turn 48 sometime in May, is a former Olympic gold medalist who is known in MMA circles for being choked out by Kimbo Slice in an exhibition MMA match.

Sylvia has been busy making hunting videos since being thoroughly dominated in 36 seconds by WAMMA heavyweight champion Fedor Emelianenko last July at Affliction’s first pay-per-view “Banned”.

Pretty weak of Cox to avoid athletic commissions. Wonder if he’s going to foot the bill for drug testing or just not do it at all?

To be honest, I really just want to see Tim Sylvia in regular MMA. I really DONT want to see any MMA fighter, especially a good one, go to the Boxing world.

    The boxing world sucks.
Going from MMA to boxing is like watching “HD with surround sound” to “black & white mono channel.”

It makes no freaking sense. I havent watched a boxing match I’ve ever liked. Why would that change now that an MMA fighter is in the boxing ring?
    Idiots.

Maybe I am the only Tim Sylvia fan, and nobody else cares?

I hope Tim does OK. I think he will. Maybe the boxing fans will apriciate him more than the fickle MMA “he is so boring cuz he dosn’t win by knock out every time” fans.
